Moving to 1bbl system - sparge time question

Hi all, I currently brew on a 15 gallon system and get about an 11 gallon yield at about 82-85% efficiency. It usually takes me about 45 mins to 1 hour to sparge and collect between 13.5 and 14 gallons. My question is when I go to 1bbl will it take 3 times as long - up to 3 hours to sparge...

    Quick keg natural carb question

Ah hah! Thanks. The beer line is right about 6'. So I don't have a way of checking pressure but maybe I should let it sit for another week and then stick it in the fridge for 3-5 days? How long does it normally take for CO2 to absorb into the brew under cold conditions? Thanks again!

    Quick keg natural carb question

Hi guys, happy HoHos. I have 5 gallons of a 6.9% IPA in a keg and used 3/4 cup of corn sugar for priming. It's been in the keg about 2 weeks and the keg has ALOT of pressure but so far the beer is not carb'd. I drew a little out to try it and it has lots of foam due to the pressure but no...

Long time brewer, first time kegger - need some advice please

Daskin, thanks very much for the advice - just read up on fining - how's this for a quick procedure: After fermentation is complete (I used irish moss in the boil and do a 3 week primary, no secondary and the brew turns out pretty clear), crash cool the fermenter in the fridge for a few days...

Long time brewer, first time kegger - need some advice please

Good info, thanks everyone. So I have about 3-4 days left in the fermenter and then I am going to crash cool in the fridge for a few days to drop out any sediment. Then I was going to rack the brew into the keg and let it condition and carbonate at the same time; just like I do in the...

Long time brewer, first time kegger - need some advice please

Hi fellas, happy Friday. I will be supplying beer for a wedding In early October and will be purchasing the Corny Keg "Whole Enchilada Kit" with an extra 5 gal keg (ball lock). I plan on keg conditioning for a week or 2 before serving and I have read to keep CO2 pressure on the beer over...

    Wyeast 1272 vs US-05 - BIG Difference!

Hey guys, I know this is a bit old but are there any updates on how this turned out?? Mikey

    White Wheat Difference

Totally agree.. For me, on the wheat batches I do, the red adds a wonderful taste and nose when mixed with white... about 50/50 in addition to the base 2 row grain bill. However, I've found that if you use too much it adds a kind of sweetness that is not bad, actually pretty good, but some may...

Will the sweet taste settle out?

Hi all, I just brewed a 10 gallon batch of pale with enough hops for about 30 IBUs. It's been in the bottle for only 3 days and is carbonating away but I have a question - I popped one yesterday just to see where the taste was going and it was pretty sweet. I'm wondering if that will settle...

Need some help fellas - was going to bottle but fermentation started again?????

Thanks man. Thought so but haven't run into this before. It's a pale I've been playing with for a while using the same base grain recepie but switching it up each time with different hops to see the difference. So far so good, the last 2 batches (10 gals) have turned out nice. This batch I...

Need some help fellas - was going to bottle but fermentation started again?????

Hi all, Happy Thanksgiving. Need some help - sitting here getting ready to bottle but I ran into a possible issue. This is my 8th all grain batch and all had been well in the summer months but now... I'm not so sure. So After about 3 weeks of primary only, the bubbles in my airlock was at a...

1st all grain batch in 12 years! Ended up good but...

Awesome, fellas. Thanks! Last question - I'm kindof a fan of bottle conditioning rather than doing a secondary for this lighter wheat so there's nothing wrong with me leaving it in primary on the chrub for about 3 weeks total and then going right into the bottles, right?

    no activity3 days later

OH.. also... yeast date... I recently did a 10 gallon batch of wheat and used two 1010 Wyeast packs. One was dated July XXXX, the other was May XXXX. The July pack took off pretty quick while the May one took its sweet time and started about a full 1.5 days later. That was at 70-72*. Being...

1st all grain batch in 12 years! Ended up good but...

Hey fellas, So I've returned to brewing after a 12 year break and was at the "intermediate" stage of about 1/2 extract 1/2 grain. Turned out some good, tasty beers with no off flavors, everyone loved them, etc. Fast forward to last Sunday when the culmination of over a months worth of work...
