Anyone use the disposable oxygen tanks for aerating?

I have the stone and everything, but dont want to pay the $50-60 for a oxiginator. All I need is the cap/valve for the tank. Is there anywhere I can get just that, or does HD have something that will work?

Guide to Making a Frozen Yeast Bank

When you put the vials in the pressure cooker, I see you leave the caps on the vials. When everything cools will they implode on themselves or are they able to withstand the vacume?

    What Mash Tun to use?

All my friends drink BMC, and my wife doesnt drink beer, so I am really the only one who drinks my beer. On that note, I usually only do 5 gallon batches, but there is that time when you want to do a split batch, in my case a American wheat and a Cherry Wheat. So I made 10 gallons and split...

I keep the lid off, you will cool much faster with no lid and a place for the steam to go.

How long did it take you to go all grain?

It was about 10 months from my first extract batch to my first all grain batch. I did 4 or 5 extract batches, they all turned out like crap, so I desided to go all grain, I started to buy and build everything 4 months after my first extract batch, but I busted my hand up at work and was out of...

Guide to Making a Frozen Yeast Bank

One question I have, when you make the glycerine solution, are you adding water and glycerine, or just glycerine and a little bit of beer from the starter?

    mash now boil later?

Depending on how long it will be before the boil, if it will be more than 4-5 hours I would do a mash out at least to denature the enzimes.

    Where to get tart/sour cherries?

I live in Michigan where we have tons of cherries. They have them in the frozen fruits isle at most grocery stores here. Although they are quite expensive, my last batch of cherry wheat I burned through over 20$ worth of cherrys. If you cannt find any PM me and we can work something out.

how to clean a blow off tube?

For my blow off lines I tie a string to my straight carboy cleaning brush, not the one that is L shapped. Then pull the brush through a couple of times after the hose has been sitting in a oxiclean solution for a little while.

Boil kettle - seen good deals lately?

I actually got really lucky and one morning while driving into work I spotted something steel in the ditch. I stopped to check it out, and what do you know, it was a keg.

    Back to Back brewing

When I brew I normally do 2-3 5 gallon batches at once. I figure I have everything rolling I might as well brew more. I usually start the mash when I go into work on Saturday morning (my first one is always a big beer), then when I come home 3-4 hours later I sparge then get that batch boiling...

    Asco Valves

I just got one, but have not installed it yet, but from my readings ect... you want one that is Normally closed, 120v and 60HZ. The pipe thread size is up to you, most people go with 1/2". Now, the ASCO valve that I got was a 5psi minimup pressure, but my Banjo burner runs at 15psi. So I am...

    Asco Red Hat Valves

Instead of a ASCO valve would I be able to use a gas valve out of a old stove, furnace or dryer? If someone is wanting to go on the cheap that would seem like a good way to go.

What type of screen to use with keggle...

The only thing that works for me in my converted keg and pellet hops is once I kill the flame I give it a good whirlpool with my spoon, let the wort spin out for a minuit, then pump the wort out into my CFC. I always get a big cone of hops and break material on the bottom of the keg in the end.

    Woops, forgot DME for starter

If you dont want to do a minimash go to your local supermart and pick up some Malta Goya. If you have a few days just twist the cap every once and a while to decarb it. If you dont have the time to decarb it, you could always boil it to decarb it.

    Reuse Trub?

First off, pitch on top of the old yeast cake, add a blow off and watch the show. Save the old yeast for another batch. If you dont want to make a seperate starter wort, I would save 2 qt's from your new batch for starter wort. Then with that wort make a starter with it and when the starter...
