    That Dreaded First-Beer Foam...

This is a logical and simple idea, I love it. I get over foam from time to time and will try this technique.

LEAKY rubbermaid 10gallon mash tun- advice needed.

I had a little leak in mine, after some searching here, I ended up making a washer out of an old baby bottle nipple for the inside- silicone, BPA free and works great. My feeling is with the coolers is I want it to be leak free from the inside to make sure it doesn't leak into the wall of the...

    New 5lb CO2 tank - possibly leaking

I just went thru this with my tank and regulator, I initially had a leak at the keg gas disconnect- but ended up having a slow leak due to a bad o-ring where the regulator connects to the tank. I couldn't find it until I submerged the whole thing (regulator and all). The gauges filled up with...

BG12 and BG14 on same regulator, drill orifices?

Well, to piggyback, I am setting up a manifold so I can use one propane tank for my HLT and BK. I have the 30PSI regulator that came with my KAB4 and an old Brinkman turkey fryer with a burner that looks like the ones in the SP10 (in fact the whole thing looks like a Bayou Classic SP10- but is...

    Sight glass in boil kettle?

I like a thermometer and sight glass on my BK, the thermometer for cooling with an immersion chiller and the sight glass for pre and post boil volumes. I built my own but by the time I sourced everything, it would have been cheaper to go with the link above. Mine is marked with electrical...

    My fermenter heater

I'm using a small ceramic space heater in my fridge that was on clearance at wally world- it's controlled by a single stage love controller, have to change it from heat to cool manually. It held 66F in a 40F garage no problem and didn't seem to cycle that much. The nice thing about the space...

    Large Infuser/Spice Ball?

I have a brew infuser, works great for dry hopping with pellets, couldn't do much whole hop dry hopping with it. I had contacted them before it was available in the states and they emailed me as soon as it was available at Midwest.

    Multiple Carbonated Kegs for Wedding

I'm doing a similar thing for a reunion, I have two in secondary and two in primary and have room for two kegs in a fridge. My plan at this time is to use corn sugar to carb the kegs at room temp, cool them down on ice for serving using CO2 to pour. Perhaps we could just force carb them at...

    Perlick/Vent Draft Towers

Williams brewing sells draft towers without the faucets, then you can just add the faucets you want. Not much cheaper than getting one with the inexpensive faucets though.

    Interesting facts about oxiclean!

I think the blue crystals are a detergent added to percarbonates. I just finished off an old tub without the crystals and have started a new tub with the crystals- much more foam (i.e. soap suds) in the blue crystal one. Still rinses well though.

    carbing keg with priming sugar....question

Does anyone have an explanation for why one would use 1/2 the priming sugar? I used a full amount of priming sugar for a keg recently to give it a try, as I'm planning on transporting some kegs for a reunion (and don't have cold storage for the kegs)- it worked just fine, I've been dispensing...

Propane tank filled, now it won't work?

I have this problem from time to time, it seems to have to do with the safety device in the tank valve that shuts down the flow of gas if there is a leak (such as a hose rupture). The tank seems to detect a leak and won't let gas flow. This is why you turn on the tank before turning on the...

    Show us your Kegerator

Those are great drip trays! I'm pretty sure I may have taken a leak down one of those a time or two in the shower :)

The tower was about $65 shipped from http://www.acumetalfab.com/ It's the 3", 12" tall two hole tower. I wanted forward sealing faucets, so decided to put the tower together myself, a bit more $ than a premade one but less expensive than replacing the faucets on a cheap one and turned out nicer...

    Best Malt Mill ?

Does anyone know if phil and mike are still arguing about mills on RCB? My ISP doesn't have a usenet server, so I don't read it anymore- those were some of the longest threads I've ever seen.

Kegs arrived - what's that smell

Mine smelled the same, cleaned with oxyclean and replaced the o-rings and all gone. The o-rings that came with the kegs smelled of pepsi- I tried boiling them to get rid of the smell- no luck. I kept them as back-ups for awhile but just tossed them a couple of days ago when I opened the box...

Midwest Supplies - won't order from them again (I TAKE IT BACK!)

I've had good luck with them too, just recently ordered online and then had to call to change the order- no problems. They aren't my regular online supplier (due to where they are located) but I'd order from them again. On the other hand, it drives me crazy getting rid of adhesive from all...

    softening salt?

We have a water softener that supplies our whole house, I had a valve put in just after the sediment filter and before the softener so I could use our "hard" water without the sediment from our well for brewing. The conventional wisdom is to not used softened water, but again, what really...

    Keg Post Tool.

I found a couple of box end wrenches at Harbor Freight for $1 each- works well for me (as above, they are 12 point).
