    pour vs syphon

i'm getting tired of waiting for my beer to take 10-15 minutes to syphon whenever i transfer. its especially annoying because seldom does the syphon ever take out all of the beer on its own without having to tip the primary. you have to either start the syphon again, which is difficult with so...

    never seen this before...

it was a great pain to pour 48 bottles down the drain. the interesting thing is that the 2L bottle doesn't have it, but i think i'm going to pour that out oh well, first bad batch in about 6-7 i've made

    never seen this before...

im guessing it was during the lagering process or something along the lines. it must have gotten contaminated before it was bottled because i have another batch that i bottled the same day with the same equipment that's fine

    never seen this before...

its my first lager brew. i used the california lager yeast because i can only keep the temperature 18-20c it was in primary for 2 weeks and in secondary for close to 2 months, so i'm pretty sure fermentation was done. i just bottled it last week. its been in the bottle about a week now yes...

    never seen this before...

this is my first lager beer, a pilsner. after bottling, i've got this strange white residue in all of my bottles. i bottled a pale ale the same day with the same equipment and there is no residue is this lager specific? good or bad? thanks

Significant raise in alcohol contact @ priming?

you'd have to wait till the beer went 100% flat though otherwise it might be the carbonation bubbles lifting it a bit :)

How long can I leave brew in primary?

good idea! will save me from mopping the floor everytime i bottle (which may be agood thing!)

    Maple Sap?

hold up. maple SAP contains 2% sugar. however, it is boiled down and condensed to become maple SYRUP. you can read nutrition info on side of the bottle. on mine, per 60ml serving there is 48g of sugar! that's gotta be close to 80%. so do the math if you have a scale and figure out how...

    New ~ From Canada

buy the brewhouse beer kits. best taste, best quality. you pay a bit of a premium, but its WELL worth the results, less work and time saved.

    is it contaminated?

it's a honey blonde ale with OG 1.050 pitched wyeast 1318 after two days in starter. had a similar "thick and dense" brown foam to what is on it now (that's where i suspect it may have gotten contaminated if it is) "1318 London Ale Yeast III. From traditional London brewery with great...

    is it contaminated?

beers been in primary for 6 days. i used liquid yeast for first time, was in a hurry, didnt boil the starter wort... wondering if its contaiminated. not sure what it looks/smells like if so. anyways, it looks like a very thick brown foam, not a very pleasant aroma (doesnt smell like beer :(...

    homebrew not good for party's?

by party's, i mean taking out of your house. i took a couple 2 litres bottles over to a friends place for poker night, and by the time we got there, it looked like all the yeast at the bottom was floating around, completely cloudy to experiment, i took another one of the 2 litres and shook...

    most versatile wyeast?

ugh, all the 1056 were snapped up i ended up getting: 2112 california lager - figured if i wanted to lager, it would let me do it at higher temps 1275 - thames valley 1318 - london III they suggested the last one saying it was good i ended up getting them for 2 bucks each, 6 for all 3, so...

    most versatile wyeast?

my local homebrew supplier is clearing out their stock of wyeast because new packaging is comng? appearently its not expired or anything, and its being cleared for 50% off (4 dollars instead of 8) im not familiar with using it, just wondering which yeast is a general good yeast for making...

    What Sanitizer do you use?

bleach i can't justify spending 4 dollars for 4 ounces when bleach will give me 4 litres for 4 dollars, which i can also use to clean the bathroom :) the time factor the way i figure it is negligible since if you put equipment in with bleach at the start before you get everything else ready...

    mixing extracts

i've made 1 batch with extracts and im returning all of my inventory. i discovered the "bag in a box" kits and have used a brew house kit which is much faster, easier, cleaner and --- better! the price is even cheaper for bag in a box by the time you factor in the additional malt extract...
