Cupcakes - Pick a Beer for Maple Bacon Cupcake Recipie

Just went by the store for beer to make cupcakes with. I want the beer to be apparent this time, so I picked 6 to choose from. The recipe is for Beer Batter Maple Bacon cupcakes. Choose one: Sam Adams Lat 48 IPA Sam Adams Cherry Wheat Guinness XStout Rahr and Sons (Ft Worth, TX) Ugly...

    Beer tasting in Las Vegas?

I highly recommend The Pub at Monte Carlo. Had some excellent Hitachino Nest beers there recently. Also got a good discussion with the barkeep about Chicha. They should be able to tickle your flight-y bone. Also, ask them about their beers they used to microbrew. They had to contract them...

Adding licorice to a stout or other brew

I usually think of anise or liquorice as a root beer flavor rather than a beer beer flavor. I'm a fan of liquorice and wintergreen flavors, so I'm kinda a root beer nut.

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

I've heard of "cereal grains", but this ****er tastes like Fruity Pebbles. Barney can have it...

    The alcohols of Elder Scrolls

It should have an OG of 1.111, and a FG of 1.011. You should use 11 different hops. I would say instead of a primary and secondary fermentation, should should take it out to 11 vessels, but there isn't a word for 11-ary. Perhaps "durimary"? It should be flavored with bloodgrass and wispstalk...

Do you tip a bartender when filling a growler?

That's generally how I tip. Each pint is a $1 tip, plus $1 for each additional item I get, like a meal. If they gave me especially good advice on a special beer they have in stock, maybe $2. If they listen to me talk about homebrewing... that's a tip in itself. :-)

    Help Creating Custom Tap Handle

I'm making a custom tap handle out of something that means something to me: an old beat-up joystick I used to play games in high school. I'm planning on sanding it down and spraying it with spray paint and a finisher. Maybe in glossy black. My problem is that I need to find a good way to...

Favorite commercial beer? Just for fun!

Oh dear god. That stuff is criminal. The first "rare" brew I've had, and I'm so glad.

Favorite commercial beer? Just for fun!

I'll throw down a Widmer Drop Top at the drop of a hat. Easy drinking and "craft" enough for me.

    Crossing to the Dark Side!

One day, any true beer freak will want the taste of hops in their mouth. It will be unexpected, but it will happen. Of course there IS a plate on the wall at the Flying Saucer, Houston that says "I still hate IPA's".

    Great compliment

I still find it irritating when people say it's the best thing they have ever had, but I still taste a multitude of flaws. I'm starting to sympathize with those standardization whores at Budweiser.

Piggly Wiggly now has their own brand of beer

I'll try to reserve judgement. It is only fair to give all brewers a chance to make a good product. It's about the beer, not idealistic philosophies.

    cleaning bottles with oxyclean

After a soak in Oxyclean, I'm going to run the bottles through the dishwasher anyway, so I'm not all that concerned with dried Oxy. I let'em soak until I have time to deal with them.

    Critique my Spaghetti Wheat

Don't want to discourage you in the middle, but I did have a homebrew that tasted strangely of tortellini recently. Good luck to you on not repeating the disaster.

    Houston getting another Brew Pub

You want to be here tomorrow. deschutes is taping the jubel 2010. It's a winter seasonal that's been freeze fractioned. They evidently only release it on a per decade basis.
