Think I might have an Infection

Need a closer picture to be certain, but it just looks like some of the yeast floating on top. Happens all the time. Nothing to worry about.

    I'm tired of homebrew farts.

I had some terrible gas for the first week or two, but nothing abnormal since. I guess my system adjusted.

Munton's CarbTabs Are Horrible - DO NOT EVER BUY THEM! (a fellow home brewer's rant)

I used them once when I forgot to throw in the priming sugar before bottling. While there were a few tiny pieces of residue floating in the bottles, they pretty much settled out once the bottles were chilled for a while. Not as nice as bulk priming, but they certainly didn't ruin my beer.

Nut Brown Ale -First attempt at original recipe

I don't care for roasted barley in a brown ale, but if you want to go with it, I would cut it back - maybe 4oz. Of course, you could brew it as it is and see how it tastes, but I wouldn't consider it a brown ale with that much roasted in it.

    How undrinkable will this be?

I've not brewed with smoked malt, but from what I've read, it ages out. So, you may not have something drinkable after the normal couple of weeks, but if you let it sit for a while, it should turn out ok.

Looking to buy a 9 gallon kettle, any suggestions?

Save money and buy an inexpensive aluminum kettle. I got the Winco linked to above off of ebay for about $44 shipped. Then spend the rest on ingredients or other brewing gadgets. To me... more beer > nice kettle.

    Growth in a bottle

Odds are you didn't clean it well enough. I've found mold in the bottom of bottles before after pouring out the contents. I avoid the mold, but never had any problems from the drinking the beer on top of it.

    priming sugar vs carb. drops

Use priming sugar, but it's useful to keep a pack of priming tabs on hand for when you forget to add the priming sugar before bottling... not that I'd know anything about that :)

    Dry hopping with Nugget?

Give it a try. Troeg's uses it as a dry hop in their nugget nectar and it's a great beer.

Share one or two of your all-time favorite recipes

Randy- I have to go with the others here that I like having the recipes sorted by BJCP categories. Looking at your site, it's not immediately apparent where you'd find, for instance, brown ale recipes. Also, what about hybrid styles? I don't see anywhere to list them. I like that once you...

At what temperature do hops add bitterness?

That's basically what I was looking for. Thanks all.

At what temperature do hops add bitterness?

I've been wondering at what temperature the bitterness starts to get extracted from the hops. I doubt it only occurs at boiling. I don't cool my wort overly fast, so I figure there's some extra bitterness being added to my brews and was wondering how much this is affecting them. Maybe my...

    I need an opinion.

You make it sound as thought brewing for 3 days straight is a bad thing.

    Official Broken Hydrometer Count

You can believe I'm a liar if you'd like, but I think the only reason it didn't break was that it fell almost perfectly straight down. It bounced and I managed to grab it before it hit a second time.

    Official Broken Hydrometer Count

Despite dropping mine on a concrete floor, still on my original... haven't been brewing long, though.
