Do I need to use cold water or can I go straight to hot tap?

Electric 40gal tank with whole-house PEX plumbing. I think I might be good? Update: nevermind. Just did some googling and apparently PEX is no panacea, and while it won't leach metals like lead or copper plumbing it WILL leach petrochemicals into the water, depending on the PEX brand. Woo...

Do I need to use cold water or can I go straight to hot tap?

Question! I noticed today that my hot tap water is exactly 155 degrees. This seems pretty darned perfect for cutting ~30min off my brew day in the heating to mash-in step. Here's the question: is there any reason I should not do this? I'm using tap water with minimal salts (recipe dependent)...

    PicoBrew Zymatic

Ok, so just found some success, will be continuing troubleshooting when I get home. I tried the picobrew website troubleshooting steps, and they didn't work but at the very end, with a VERY pressurized keg, I tried firing up the circulate program and it worked. I think you were right about the...

Likewise, my email address is [email protected] if there's instructions available for breakdown & deep clean.

    PicoBrew Zymatic

Thanks @bejazzpiano for the tip. Didn't work for me though. I ran it for 3 minutes in that state, no water movement :(

    PicoBrew Zymatic

So I picked the absolute worst time to bring my Zymatic out of retirement. Fatal Error #1 as soon as I start a clean cycle, and even just running circulate doesn't achieve anything. I can hear the pump trying but no water movement. Does anyone have ideas? @Bob Coco ? I've checked: -keg in...

Any recommendations re: stainless washing station?

Hi, I'm in the process of setting up a basement homebrewery, and I want to do everything in one spot - store raw materials, brew, clean, serve, etc. I'm rocking a picobrew zymatic, and a used continental KC69 kegerator. I'd like to use the stainless top of the kegerator as a prep area for...

    PicoBrew Zymatic

Hey Mike - thanks for all the info about keeping my Zymatic running. Got a question for ya - my step filter has tons of little cracks at corners. What can I do to keep this thing running?

Trying to simplify, save time & effort with my Zymatic - suggestions welcome!

Hey all. I'm a Zymatic owner, and haven't brewed in three years. Looking to get back into it, but I need to seriously simplify & cut down on the human effort and time required. I'm going to outline my plans & see if anyone has good suggestions for me going forward. Priority 1 is TIME. I...

    PicoBrew Zymatic

Man the amount of FUD & bashing going on here is impressive, and it depresses me to see it - it would be nice if moderates could strike out all the crap and let the conversation focus on the *actual* users discussing their systems. Anyway: I'm curious about brewing cold-brew coffee in my...

Does anyone have mechanical diagram of True Bar-back Coolers?

I am sad to report that the seller's partner already sold the fridge without telling him. Man, almost got a $1800+ cooler for $150. Dang.

That is it exactly. You're a rockstar!

Does anyone have mechanical diagram of True Bar-back Coolers?

I'm picking up this guy for a song tomorrow and will be turning it into a kegerator. Now here's my question - in turning this into a kegerator I want to make DAMNED sure that I don't inadvertantly kill it by cutting electrical or plumbing. Does anyone have a mechanical diagram for a True...

Help me find this particular component? compression to keg liquid post

Brilliant! I'm 95% sure it's that. Aaand I figured out why I couldn't find the purchase email - it's my wife's email address on the brewhardware account, so the email would've gone to her.

Help me find this particular component? compression to keg liquid post

I need to buy a second one of a part I have. Problem is I can't find my receipt or figure out where I got it from...or even what the exact part is. It's a compression adapter, stainless steel, with plastic ring (white hard plastic) instead of stainless compression ring. It fits onto my 3/8"...

Do all keezers have rust problems?

So what I'm hearing is condensation is the enemy, and freezers are prone to it as they don't have dehumidification cycles like fridges?

Do all keezers have rust problems?

So I've now had two old chest freezers both die on me after rusting out terribly over the course of 1-2 years (each). Is this inevitable? Do I need to find a kegerator that uses stainless steel on the inside?

    Has anyone tried tapwater chillers?

Thanks for all the ideas everyone. Looking at what's out there...think I'm gonna go simple. Inefficient but simple. Keezer + fermwrap heaters + temp controllers + keg cozies. I'll keep the keezer at the lowest common fermentation temperature and if any fermenter needs slightly higher i'll...

    Has anyone tried tapwater chillers?

True, true, but that's a difficult thing to achieve for me since I'm fermenting in corny kegs. If I ever see a stainless steel chiller coil that's built into a corny keg lid I'd be game.

    Has anyone tried tapwater chillers?

Just wondering. Has anyone tried basically a glycol circuit but using simple tapwater flow through the system? I'm thinking copper tubing wrapped around fermentation kegs, a temperature sensor taped to each keg wall, and a valve that controls the flow of water in or out. Anyone done...
