    Harvesting yeast from fermenting beer

So I brewed a kolsch with wyeast 1007 German ale, which has now been fermenting away (slowing down now) for the past 7 days. But I just got the sudden urge to brew a small batch (1 gal) of another beer using the same yeast. Obviously it's possible to pull out a small amount of fermenting beer...

    Hefeweizen in normal bottles

What volume of CO2 can normal 12 oz beer bottles hold? Brewing a hefeweizen soon and would like to just carb to around 3.5-4.0 but everyone seems to be scared to carb regular bottles that high. Thanks!

NB White House Honey Porter Kit Issue

Did not realize there was quite that big of a range. Well either way, it's more of a 15-20, than 20-30. And the pictures I've seen of the WH porter from the kit look more like 25-30. I'd be less concerned with the color if the flavor didn't match as well. There is no discernible roasty...

NB White House Honey Porter Kit Issue

Interesting - that's exactly what mine is like. Makes me feel slightly better but I would still love to know what the issue was. How old was your kit/grains? I wonder if it has to do with the grain being old (as mine definitely was). And as you said, my OG and FG are spot on. It smells...

NB White House Honey Porter Kit Issue

This was my second time brewing with extract (have made many all-grain batches), first time was the other White House Honey kit from Northern Brewer. That one turned out exactly right but the porter did not come out to be porter at all. I kind of expected that it wasn't going to be as dark as...

    Should I be transferring it?

Yeah, I was really mad at myself for not doing this too. Next year though, I'm gonna have it all thought out. Or I'll just get some bees and use their honey. Thanks for the replies! I think I'll take your advice and just bottle it.

    Should I be transferring it?

So I made a batch of about a gallon from apples from my front yard (all the left overs at the end of the season I could get). I didn't add anything, and used the yeast from the apples. Surprisingly it cleared, but there is a decent amount of sediment on the bottom of the carboy (the first...

    Beginner Questions

So I just did my first batch of cider. I used store bought (Whole Foods) and used organic apple peel yeast (https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f32/organic-apple-peel-yeast-199622/) and it's carbing in a 2 liter now. I winged the whole process, went by taste only (I think I'm going to buy a...

    Organic apple peel yeast?

I did this for my first batch of cider just a few weeks ago. I lucked out and it worked perfectly. It may not look like it's doing anything after a day, but soon you'll start to feel pressure. The cider is now carbonating and I'll be drinking by tomorrow. That youtube video is what...
