Am I going WAY overboard in my sanitation?

Ok, agreed, but only if I get to define a low pressurized keg with a gallon or 2 of starsan in it as a spray bottle and a bucket to catch my 'over spray' I'm all about efficency. Who cares about a dollar of Starsan. :p I do like to clean my beerlines, taps and keg valves from time to time...

Am I going WAY overboard in my sanitation?

I have to wonder why every kitchen I've worked in has a sink full of fresh sanitizer for all of the dishes to go through if spray was enough... does the health dept agree? I've had quite a few cheap bosses in the past that would probably just use a spray of tap water if they could pass an...

Am I going WAY overboard in my sanitation?

I'm pretty much like the OP except I transfer my initial 5 gallons from keg to carboy under pressure, and then into an old bottling bucket where I toss just about everything else I'm using. At the end of the day I have a full spray bottle to use in the kitchen for the next week or so, and I...

    Organizing recipes?

Getting a brew specific software tool set is the best purchase I've made to date aside from my core equipment. The OP has his stuff in BeerXML so it would be a step backwards to strip it all down to plain text to import it into Word at this point I think. While any word processor app can handle...

    Transplanting - Best Time?

I'd do it as soon as the ground thaws so your transplants have a full growing season in their new location. However, you could postpone a couple weeks if you anticipate more hard freezes in the next few weeks. I'm in Denver, my new ones are already in the ground, but no vines poking up yet...

    Keg carbing question

I'd hit them with something like 30PSI. 12 to 15 will take forever using that approach. Also, after you apply the gas, disconnect and shake the keg, hit it with some more pressure then and you'll probably not have to revisit that keg for another day. Have you considered removing one of the kegs...

MR beer and now to allgrain

I'm always coming back to this one. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f66/centennial-blonde-simple-4-all-grain-5-10-gall-42841/ If the amount of positive feedback doesn't convince a person that it's a total winner, not sure what would.

    Green Beer...Yeah I Did It.

Right on :) I did the same thing about 20 seconds ago. Good stuff. Slight edit lol, I'm only using green.

    Organizing recipes?

I tried to upload an xml file of one of my recipies, but the forum only supports a few file types.. Actually, you can generate one yourself if you have beer smith, just select a folder with recipes in it, then select File > Export As and select the BeerXML file format. As you'd expect, this...

Poured fermented beer w/ honey back into carboy...

I think the concern about having extra oxygen in the fermentor comes from the fact that you are probably really short on fermentables at this point since it was ready to bottle before. Question kind of circles back to your current level of fermentables and how active the yeast is really going to...

    Organizing recipes?

Beersmith does this too, it's under the file menu, Export As option. Pretty sure most the top tools can export in a web viewable format. It probably isn't used much in Beersmith because most users won't want to leave the application to view their data, great for sharing with others though.

    Organizing recipes?

The consumer for most XML is software, not the human eyeball, if that makes sense. That's why it looks like code, it pretty much is exactly that, except it's just data. In otherwords, a lot of programs are expecting XML data feeds that contain all of the data that application uses, displays...

    Organizing recipes?

I use BeerSmith, you can create folders to orgainize how you want. For example you could create a folder for all of your beers that use Centennial has a primary hop. It could get a bit complicated if you have 20 folders, all containing duplicate recipies. The default setup is a folder for...

Poured fermented beer w/ honey back into carboy...

Did you take a gravity reading on the 'honey / beer' mix? My only concern is if you have enough fermentables to hit whatever targets you may have in mind with just enough honey to bottle condition. I know it takes more honey than corn sugar to bottle condition, and probably a lot more to do a...

    Chimay Yeast or Wyeast?

There's a lot of conflicting information out there regarding the strains used for bottling vs. fermenting. I think the jury is still out on that one. I'd probably do a test batch with your harvested yeast and see how it goes. The first page of this thread seems to indicate that it works fine...

    new brewer question

Me personally, if I was where you are at in your brewing career, I wouldn't change too many things from brew to brew quite yet as you won't really know which of the multiple things you changed that made the most improvement. Sounds like you've already made a major improvement to your no boil...

    Bayou Classic 3066a Use

I have the same burner. In my case, my wort is already pretty hot by the time I start my boil ~150 to 165F because I'm usually just finishing my sparge. I have to be careful of boil overs, because like you, I have the same pot too :). You didn't say what kind of brewing your into, but I don't...

    Beginning Brewer from Ohio

Welcome to the hobby :) After brewing for 10 years, I'm just now doing all grain batches. Beersmith is an outstanding application for keeping records and helping organize on brew day. You picked a good one :) After you get a few mr. beer kits under your belt, definitely make the jump into...

    are 2 gallon fermenters available??

2 gallon sizes here in plastic - http://www.homebrewers.com/product/5204/2-Gallon-Fermenting-Bucket-wLid.html I did a google for 2 gallon fermenting buckets and 2 gallon fermentors and didn't come up with a lot of glass ones unfortunately.

    Wort Chiller Question

I don't know what PSW is,You probably mean (PBW) Powdered Brewery Wash? It's available everywhere home brew stuff is sold. Oxyclean is used as a cheaper substitute by a lot of people as well.
