I converted a keg into an electric kettle. I was in the same situation as you. I use 2 heater elements on 120v, just plugged into separate circuits. It works well. Can boil a full 12 gallons.
I'm a young guy, full time student, with no prior woodworking experience. I made one that turned out great. Found freezer on craigslist for $20, and wood + tile only cost me around $150. All in all, it was worth it for me. Haven't built the sides yet, but the important part is done.
Dont worry about it, everything should be fine. If you pitched the right amount of yeast, and that was clean, then you'll be OK.
PS: why is this in the HBT Announcements forum?
On my freezer, I designed mine to slide over the top. Has side supports that "pinch" the top, then has a groove that I made with screws. The groover is smaller than the top; this works because the plastic sealing is maleable and slightly smaller. The counter slides on top of the freezer top and...
Made a 15 gallon batch of this and rounded up the grain bill to full pounds (6 pounds of each). Hopped it a *lot* with 6 oz of cascade at 60 minutes, so we'll see how this goes! Sitting in secondary right now around 1.005 with a week and a half to go. Definitely going to be different than the...
I just read this entire thread. Awesome. Makes me realize that I might be able to do something like this... anyone up to date on ABC regs for TN? Can't find much info on fees or regs for breweries.
Hello,
Never tried to mess with my water before, but figured "eh" let's see what we can do.

I've read some stuff about this, but there are quite a few entries on this report that I am clueless as to how they would impact brewing...
Even if you dont want to use them, buy them. At $25, that's a ridiculusly great deal. Hang on to them and businesses will buy them from you for a lot more than that. Most businesses rent freezers like that from the distributors for the product, and it's expensive.
I've got a starter of 1764 Wyeast Labs' ROGUE Pacman going right now; I intend to mail cultures tomorrow. If you want it, PM me your address with what you have, and we can make a trade.
I've got 50ml, 125, 250, 500, 1l, 2, and 5. I think that all of them are handy to have. You can buy a kit of 50, 125, 250, 500, and 1000ml in borosilicate for pretty cheap. If you start culturing, you should consider getting that.
Well, I've sent a lot of PMs this week about what people have listed. Can't wait to get the trade going!
List your yeast and let's all share :)
PS: I'm capturing some wild yeast ATM. Maybe we can get going on our own yeast strains? Going to be playing with it a good bit in the lab. Maybe it'll...
