44 Tip Natural Gas Burner - What BTU's?

So forget the whole "10,000" btu's per jet thing. Like the rating on the banjo burners, I think everyone knows at this point that these ratings are way far fetched. That said, I've been able to find pretty consistently the following btu rating for the 23 and 32 tip natural gas burners: 23...

    Moisture in Refractometer!

So it looks like some water made it into my refractometer. I can barely read it at this point and upon closer examination I see some "fog" on the inside glass. Has this happened to anyone else? Can I open it up and dry it out?

    Pacific Hydrostar (Harbor Freight) Pumps

i agree... i guess the question was more about the plastic and if/how it holds up to the PBW and STARSAN. is it a type of plastic that's okay to use with these chemicals? i'm assuming so since so many ppl are using them as conical cleaning pumps but didn't see any mention of this specifically...

    Pacific Hydrostar (Harbor Freight) Pumps

I see a lot of folks are using these submersible pond type pumps for keg/carboy cleaning... running PBW and/or starsan through them. I'm wondering what type of plastic these pumps are made from? Safe for contact with PBW and Starsan? Here's some links to a few of them I've seen others...

    Help figure out low efficiency...

wow that was quick... 2 responses while i was typing my reply to the original. thanks gents! it was a huge grain bill, but split into the double mash, it was actually a small grain bill. so i don't know that that would have impacted anything. certainly had i been able to mash all 70+lbs i would...

    Help figure out low efficiency...

hehe... ya, i have a few brews under my belt - but certainly am not above making a mistake somewhere along the way or leaning something new with every brew!! i did crush it myself. i have a monster mill and crush at (or below) 180 RPM at .037 - crush looked good, but to be honest, i didn't...

    Help figure out low efficiency...

I'll just start right off by saying that I know the beer will turn out fine. It'll taste great (I'm sure) and I'll enjoy drinking it. This question is to try and fiugure out where I went wrong in the process more than anything. So here's the deal. I'm on a 25gal system and have this Imperial...

    ThermoWorks Therma K

Anyone have experience with the Therma K thermometer? http://www.thermoworks.com/products/handheld/therma_k.html Only about 10 bucks more than the thermapen and I like the idea of having the probe separate from the unit. With the probe included it appears as though the accuracy is a tiny bit...

    SRM -> MCU Conversion Formula??

Greetings. I have a need to convert an existing SRM to MCU. All I can find is how to get SRM from MCU, not MCU from SRM. If I wasn't an algebraic moron, I could certainly re-calc the formula for SRM: SRM color = 1.4922 * (MCU ** 0.6859) Can anyone help? I want to get the MCU from and...

Guide to set internal chest freezer thermostat to >32F; Eliminate external control

So I could use some help. I'm trying to do this with a whirlpool upright freezer and having some trouble. I thought I found the adjustment screw but it doesn't seem to be working. I've tightened it all the way down and ran overnight = below freezing. I've unscrewed all the way and ran overnight...

Ball Lock Injector on Sanke Keg?

If I have the threaded fitting for my sanke coupler and wanted to take a sanke keg to a party, could I use this type of ball lock injector (which I already have for my corny kegs) on a sanke keg? http://www.williamsbrewing.com/BALL-LOCK-INJECTOR-P84.aspx I wasn't sure if because of the...

Sanitize Aluminium - 30 seconds in Starsan Okay?

cool. ya, was more worried about some sort of nasty developing on the aluminum and getting into the wort than i was about the yard stick itself.

Sanitize Aluminium - 30 seconds in Starsan Okay?

Just picked up a cool aluminium yard stick on the cheap that I was wanting to use to check post boil volumes in the kettle... which means I need to be able to sanitize it. I know you don't want to leave starsan in contact with aluminium for extended periods of time (similar to copper), but...

Malt Table - Gravity Points per Lb ??

Anyone ever authored a table showing different malts/adjuncts and their gravity points per lb?? Just messing around with manual calculations (yes... super geeky I know) and I can only find a very small list of a few basic malts showing the grav/lb. Thanks for the info! :mug:
