Root Beer Milk Stout - Help!

Safras root is a better way to go. And also a sasafras root vodka tea in secondary too. I personally would stay awat from the xtract unless you can find a really good one. It might taste kinda funky. If you do add extract eith add it to taste or leave in the secondary until the extract merries...

Coffee Stout, but no chocolate malt. Grocery Store Substitute?

Regular chocolate malt is called chocolate malt because of its color. It tastes nothing like chocolate. Its more roast/burnt. Pale chocolate will give you more of a chocolate flavor. IF you are looking for a chocolate taste i would go with cocoa nibs steeped in vodka for a week or cocoa powder...

Scotch Whiskey: Want to make my own.

Do a search or buy one od the many booke on amazon. I cannot for the lofe of remember the name of the malt. Also as far as yeast is concerned you wanna probably go with a high gravity dry yeast. Safa and lavlin both make yeasts designed for whiskeys and other high gravity apirits.

Scotch Whiskey: Want to make my own.

I mnow the topic of used barrels has co.e up. In scotland they buy used burbon barrels from the U.S because of the whit oak and the seasoning from the burbon. Adventure in homebrew....www.homebrew.org and a few others sell 5gallon once used burbon berrals for 75-80.00

Scotch Whiskey: Want to make my own.

This thread may be really old and im really late to the party BUT the smaller the batch the less time it needs to be exposed to oak. It takes a long time to infuse and meld 55gallons of spirits but only weeks/months to do it to 5gallons.

    Brewing Chicha!

What about taking the corn directly from the stalk and doing it that way? The corn is sugar until it is picked then it turns to starch. Then you have to chew it to re convert it. But what if you just take the corn off the stalk and shuck it and immediatly do the cooking? I think it take about a...

Bananas Foster Creamy Ale (All Grain) **pic intensive**

Did we already cover the banana extract topic? I think we did but oh well...has anyone tried banana extract instead of or in conjunction with real banana? I know real fruit has a habit of fading fast. I used real coconut in a porter i made but all i ended up with is the toasted coconut flavor so...

Is anyone in the detroit area going to ashleys bi annual cask ale party next weekend? I have been reading the list of beers. You can put a Y adaptir with on off valbes on the tank. If your reasoning is to save gas and effort by keeping it in the fridge and not shuffling around tuen yeah i would get two tanks.

Are you looking for a dual body regulator? You can make one from two regs. I did in fact buy the economy regulator to add to my other one. It works just fine. Its solid, not elcheapo i say get it. Worse case you send it back. Its basically the one you get in a plain white box from your local HBS...

    Mint Chocolate Porter

Try using a hop bag or pulverizing the mint in a food processor and make a tea. And by tea use hot vodka to steep and extract the flavor...give it anweek or two...use more than you think you need because it might not all come out and the flavor mellows.....use a bunch more and add it a little...

world expo of beer 2012 who's going?

Ok. Its been a while. Whos goin? Last year we decided it would be a better idea to just stay in the area rather than drive tipsy or have a DD. We got to the hotel in birch run and found out that free shuttles run to amd from all the area hotels all day and night...it was awesome. I left my phone...

    chocolate cherry stout

Also you might be better served to go to GFS or some resturaunt supply company and buy frozen sweet cherries and puree them rather than buying the puree...you will, worse case, get more for the same amount of money. And i would use 4-8oz of cocoa nibs. You will get the chocolate without any fake...

    chocolate cherry stout

Do not use an xtract. I used an extract in 3 attempts for a cherry wheat and all tasted like syrup. A guy i met at a beer tasting said to use black cherries or sweet cherry puree. Also, if you are looking for more chocolate amd less roast i would ise pale chocolate malt. It has more of a...
