Keezer collar build - is insulation necessary?

No insulation on my keezer. I also have mine inside with computer fan. I think that if you had your keezer in a location where the temperatures fluctuate a lot, insulate. If not, you'll be fine. I have zero condensation. My kegs don't even come up to the level of the collar and the temperature...

    Backsweeten after kegging and carbing??

I kegged up my first cider last week and took a taste yesterday. I'd like to get a bit more sweetness in it and was considering backsweetening with concentrate. Is this something I can do after it has been carbed or did I miss my window? Thanks.

2 batches of beer ruined out of the last 4

I second the STC route. I've now made two controllers that can run both heat and cool. They work great, they are cheap, and you get good control over temps.

    Keezer Collar: General Questions

I drilled four holes off the bat and only installed 3 taps. I just used a chrome plug found in the hardware store (hardware section) to seal it up until in had another tap. This way all my cutting was done before I painted and such. Worked great and looked good too.

    Hoppo's E-Brewery Build

I can tell you that I have an in-line fan (designed for hydroponics) that is 4" 165cfm. It pulls from about 8 feet away and exits (after fan) about 4 feet through dryer vent and creates enough suction where I can "stick" a kettle lid to the duct input. Never have any kind of...

    Stuck Sparge

I brewed up a Belgian White this last weekend and had real trouble with a stuck sparge. I knew things were not going as planned when during the mash I could not get good flow through my HERMS coil. I used: Belgian Pilsner as base, 3.00 lb White Wheat Malt, and 2.5 lb Flaked Wheat. I have...

    Belgian beers essential ingrediants

I've always used candi sugar on Tripels or Belgian Strong Ales. Pilsner malt as the base. I like hallertauer mittelfruh, Saaz for hops. Styrian Goldings will work too. I've used Munich, Biscuit, and Caramel for specialty. Favorite of the three is Munich. I'm looking to put the yeast front and...

    why go electric?

For me it was all about being able to brew indoors. February Michigan winters were no kinda fun for me to brew in.

how quickly does your herms step up?

    Coconut Ale

I can't say if coconut in the mash will impact carbonation, but I've toasted it and added to secondary and I had little if any problems with carb (I force carb).

What do you put your ekettles on?

I have a wood stand and use the 14 in. variety of these http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003Y3C99U/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

    Chugger SS replacement Head Question

I'm considering upgrading to the Chugger SS heads to replace the polysulfone heads from my March pumps. I have one regular March and one high flow March. I've looked around at different vendors who offer the replacement heads and see that some look to include the impeller and some don't (or...

PICO style FB and "slack space"

Ok, I must have misread something about equal runnings vs equal water volumes, but I'm still not sure I get it. Using your calculations in the previous post. The 5.8 gallons of strike water would be plenty to cover in the mash (I think). You would have 3.5 gallons for sparge. If I've got 2...

PICO style FB and "slack space"

Thanks. I've divided my total strike and sparge water in 1/2 before. I do mostly 5 gallon batches and have a large pot-15 gallons. Depending on the grain bill there are still times when if I take say 9 gallons total water for mash and sparge I'm only getting 4.5 gallons for each. This leaves...

PICO style FB and "slack space"

I've read a bit about some folks that have the same problem I'm having, but don't feel I have enough info to make a good decision. I have a PICO style FB in my kettle MT that sits about 2 inches above the bottom. I have been batch sparging. I have a dip tube that gets all but about .25 gallons...

Need help building a control panel

I hate to sell myself short, but if I can do it, you can too :) I teach 4th grade. Far removed from a profession that requires technical expertise. The very first electrical thing I ever did was the panel. If I look at the panel complete I am shocked that I was able to do it, but just take it...

Need help building a control panel

I had no background in electronics before my Kal clone. I'd start on that site. Might not get you exactly what you're after, but it's a starting point. My GFI is in the main plug (got that idea from Kal too).
