    Kane AHA Rally - 10/19

I got an SG of 1.060. I pitched WL565 Saison and am considering dry hopping it. Kane has 15 barrels remaining of what they brewed and will be putting it on at the brewery tasting room. I wonder if they'll have an event for people to compare their brews?

Imperial Stout Respect Imperial Stout (Extract)

I brewed this on 12/15. Though I bumped the molasses up to 3/4lb. I didn't have any Target on hand, so I substituted with Nugget. Also, double pitched S-04. I might prime with local honey rather than sugar?

    Bottle capper far away...

So I have an IPA fermenting at my parents house since I can regulate the temperature better there. Anyhow, I brought my bottling equipment to their house and in the midst of bottling, realized that I left the capper in my kitchen 35 miles away. First time for everything I suppose? I already...

First time: What can I make/plan with these?

Your list is similar to something I just brewed. Im moving at the end of the year and wanted to use up stuff that has been taking up shelf space in the kitchen/fridge. Its something of an ESB: 6.6lb. golden light LME 2lb. sparkling amber DME 1.5 oz fuggles (60 min) 1 oz fuggles (15 min)...

    Hurricane, hops and yeast

I didnt have power for 10 days. Im wondering if my hops/yeast went bad. The house is older and it was very chilly throughout the house with no heat. Id hate to lose my hop stash, but I dont wont to make a bad beer either. Tough decisions!

    Project: Snow Day

I feel like there is some biscuit malt in the grain bill.

No fermentation yet... 78 hours and counting

I made a Black American Ale over the weekend and still didnt have any activity as of this morning. Fortunately, there is a HBS near my office, so I bought some yeast (among other supplies) at lunch time. Still no activity when I got home, so I checked the hydrometer and repitched. I dont ever...

Post infection or krausen in seconday?

Tuesday, I racked a porter to secondary after six weeks in primary. I just noticed today that is has a thin krausen layer on top. I kind of freaked at first, but I dont believe it to be an infection.

    Coriander and Orange Peel

I brewed a wheat today for the first time and added Coriander & Sweet Orange Peel in the last 10 minutes of the boil. I put it in primary and pitched a Belgian Wheat Yeast. Through reading about Coriander, it seems that it can take over the taste if its in the fermenter. I tossed most of the...

    What gives head?

Hops (especially with high alpha acids) create head. So if you're brewing an IPA, you generally dont have to worry. Certain grains/malts also help with head, such as carapils or torrified wheat. These are ideal additions for styles such as stouts and porters.

    What happed to Guinness?

I think one of the main problems that occurs is that establishments don't clean their lines regularly. That makes a huge impact in drinking a proper pint.

Liquid Yeast Unrefrigerated but not Used

I planned on brewing today, but life happened. When I got home, I remembered that I took my liquid yeast out this morning to warm up. I put it back in the refrigerator, but was wondering if this is detrimental to the yeast as it has been out for about 13 hours? Thanks for any help on this.

    What happed to Guinness?

The draught cans have been fairly consistent in delivering the Guinness that Ive always loved. The pub that I had called a second home (it literally used to be a home) used to have the best Guinness in my area. Sadly, it was bought by two Irish natives, gutted and remodeled to look like a Disney...

    Splitting a Brew

Thanks for the help! I was thinking of cold brewing the coffee, soaking it in bourbon and then draining it off before pitching.

    Splitting a Brew

Not as in sharing a pint! I have a porter that went to primary the other day and was considering splitting it in two once primary is done. Half, I would keep as is and the other half add coffee and/or some bourbon to in secondary. Has anyone split batches before? Is this an ok thing to do...

Dropped a rubber plug in my brew

I did this on my most recent brew, a holiday brown. I opened my first bottle last night with no discernable problem. I'm sure you'll be ok too. Good luck!
