    Advise on 1st water treatment

Thank You so much. I think I am going to go with 75% RO Water, and 2% acid malt. How does this look for an American IPA with some assertive hop quality? Starting Water (ppm): Ca: 49 Mg: 17 Na: 20 Cl: 26 SO4: 33 CaCO3: 144 Mash / Sparge Vol (gal): 11 / 7.25 RO or distilled %: 75%...

    Advise on 1st water treatment

I could use some input on my water. I am looking at adjusting my water for an American IPA. I am a little confused about what SRM value to use. I am adding 1/2 lb of carafa III for the last 15min of the mash to raise the SRM. I was thinking of splitting the difference the SRM is 10 without and...

    ESB Not Carbonating

Did you overfill? I also will suggest shaking or rolling the keg. The first beer I kegged was flat after 40hours @30psi then 1 week @12psi temp was 39F. I shook the keg for a few minutes then it carbed.

cascade / centennial hop suggestions for DIPA

No problem I have not used oak in any of my beers yet, but I do use it in my wines. I have been thinking about it, and if I were to do it I would try it on a DIPA and soak the oak in Bourbon. Try some of your batch on oak in a growler. If you do try it let us know how it turns out. :mug:

cascade / centennial hop suggestions for DIPA

I prefer this hop schedule over mixing. I would consider dry hopping with a 1/2oz of cascade , 1/4of centennial and 1/2 oz of citra. Also I would consider reducing the 30 min centennial to 1oz. and upping the 15 min cascade slightly. I have been brewing a lot of beers with 60 and 30min...

    1.25 qt/lb or 1.5 qt/lb??

I also agree with the previous replies. When I started brewing all grain I mashed at 1.25qt/lb. I have recently switched to 1.5qt/lb because it works better with my system (better recirculation, and it allows me to single batch sparge on most beers). I have noticed no difference in taste or...

Does Underpitching US05 = Low flocculation?

Hello fellow Brewers. I brewed a batch of a 1.039 OG blonde ale about 2 weeks ago. I made a 2 quart starter with some US05 slurry. Normally I wash my yeast very well so I know that I am pitching only the creamy goodness. On this batch I was pressed for time so I just grabbed a couple of...

Winware vs. Super Mega Pot V.s Bayou

I have 2 Winware pots, 1 for my BK and 1 for my HLT, and I love them. These are heavy duty pots and you can pickup a 60qt polarware false bottom for $80.00 shipped from KaTom which will fit in these pots.

Mash Tun Pickup Tube Placement For RIMS

This is for a RIMS system. I am wondering where is the ideal placement for my pickup tube in my Mash Tun. I am using a SS false bottom that sits above my coupler and valve. My original plan was to use a 90deg Street Elbow @ the coupler with a closed nipple ground down enough to keep it...
