    How big of a boil kettle?

    17g should work just fine. I currently use a 15g kettle and do plenty of 10g batches, of a wide variety of beers. Just purchase some fermcap to help with boil overs.

    I wouldnt worry- you have a healthy, active fermentation going on there, so there is still CO2 being forced up the carboy, most likely with enough flow/pressure to keep anything else from getting in.
