    Ring around bottle neck

Thanks for the fast reply Sardoman. Yeah, the only reason I was really concerned is because the rings in my past batch never "fell out." Although, I guess the krausen ring in the primary persists after it recedes as well. That thin film just didn't look quite right for whatever reason.

    Ring around bottle neck

Just wanted to see what you all think this is (see photos below). It is a thin film that has developed along the top of my bottled beers. If you tilt the bottle it adheres to the inside. I didn't see any pictures of "mini-krausen" in bottles up here so I thought I'd get the input of those...

    Removing labels.. baking soda!

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I've been using a water and baking soda solution recently to remove labels with great success. However, I was just reading through Korzonas' Homebrewing Volume I and he mentions that soaking bottles in washing soda more than a couple of hours will leave a...

Splitting the batch into multiple fermentations in Beersmith

Apologies if this question has been answered elsewhere, but I couldn't find it. I'm just starting out with Beersmith, and among other things, I intend to use it as a record keeping tool. However, I would like to take a 5 gallon batch, split it equally into 2 carboys, and ferment each with...

Show Me Your Wood Brew Sculpture/Rig

My first attempt at a 3-tiered rig. Made 3 separate sections for better mobility. Still had to put wheels on the first and second tiers. It's heavy as hell. I really need to learn to weld. :cross: Anyway, it's nothing fancy, but hopefully it can get the job done. Action shots to come soon!

    Homebrew Club etiquette help

Since we're on the topic of homebrew etiquette, I was wondering if there is anything wrong with joining more than one homebrew club. I live right in the middle between Jacksonville, FL and Savannah, GA and thought it would be nice to attend both clubs' meetings since they are held at different...

    Bottling Mistake?

I second Pezman's post. Shaking the bottles just after bottling probably won't hurt anything, but it also is probably entirely unnecessary, especially if you poured your priming sugar directly into the bottling bucket before bottling. With all the suspended yeast in your beer already, they...

BJCP Exam Tips - LONG post

A lot of great information in this thread. I'm getting ready to start studying for this exam (no exam scheduled yet) and was just wondering if anyone had any advice on how much time it takes to prepare for this? I know that this will be different for everyone but a ballpark figure would be...

    Thoughts on Northern Brewer kits?

I too am about to make the leap to AG brewing and wanted an easy to follow recipe to get started. I'm considering a NB kit because of the quality and convenience. The only concern I have is that quite a few people in this thread have mentioned that NB kit packages have been "clearly labeled."...
