    Hop Leaves turning brown

Don't think so. I found bugs that look like leaf hoppers and theses look exactly like the pictures of cast skins from when the leaf hoppers molt. This page about Apple Leaf Hoppers has this pic of their cast skins - .

    Hop Leaves turning brown

I believe you're right that it's leaf hoppers. I found some tiny green bugs on the leaves that might be leaf hoppers, hard to tell exactly what at that size, but the white things under the leaves look like they might be the castings from when the leaf hoppers molt. So at this point there are...

    Hop Leaves turning brown

Thanks for the tips. I haven't been over to the house my hops live at yet, but I'll take a look tonight. The only thing I noticed when looking at the hops were some small white things under some of the leaves, possibly eggs. I tried to take a picture of it, but my phone camera wouldn't focus...

    Hop Leaves turning brown

Having a problem with my hops, the leaves have been losing color and turning brown at the edges and look like they are burnt almost. Does this look like disease, nutrients, too little water or too much water or possibly just hot temperatures affecting the hops? Tried looking at handbooks, but...

Yet another Hops Nutrient Deficiency question

Alright, thanks. My hops aren't at my house unfortunately so I only check in on them every few days. I'll take a look tomorrow and see what's changed. The brown areas in the middles of the leaves in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th pictures were what worried me, but it may just be related to the insect...

Yet another Hops Nutrient Deficiency question

Pictures My second year plants seem to be doing very well, but I just noticed what looks to be a nutrient deficiency. Some of the leaves are turning brown on the leaf parts between the major veins and also on the edges of the leaves. Some of the leaves that are not yet brown between the major...

Proper positioning on pipe fittings for pump

Not directly on to the pump head, but on to another fitting. My inlet on the pump is pump head -> coupling -> camlock -> 90° elbow -> T -> ball valve / camlock for hose connections. Outlet is pump head -> coupling -> camlock -> 90° elbow -> ball valve -> camlock for hose connections. A...

Proper positioning on pipe fittings for pump

I'm building a pump in a toolbox build and I'm having a bit of a problem getting my pipe fittings attached to it to work out properly. My problem is that I can't seem to get the T (and to a lesser extent the ball valves) both tight and aligned in the correct direction. Any tips on how to get...

Someone offered me free male hops

Pretty sure they are useless for brewing, unless you want to undertake a DIY hop breeding program

How big should a hop hill be?

I've seen many suggestions of making a small hill to plant hops in for better drainage, but I'm not seeing anything about what size the hill should be. I ended up planting my hops Monday in hills about 6" high and 2' across, but I wasn't really sure how big or wide was best for the hops. So...

Water Adjustment for ESB doing both an All Grain and Extract version

Sounds good, thanks for the confirmation. I was under the impression that Magnesium wasn't all that important to worry about as you get enough from the grains in the mash, is that not accurate? Any thoughts on adjusting the water for the extract?

Water Adjustment for ESB doing both an All Grain and Extract version

I switched to all grain brewing after only a couple extract batches and I haven't been too pleased with most of my all grain brews. So for my next beer I wanted to brew an All Grain and an extract equivalent version of the same beer, with the same yeast and match them as closely as possible...

Who else has received their delivery from Great Lakes? (pix)

Thanks, that's good to know. I ordered a while ago and put a note of so I wasn't entirely sure when these were coming. Definitely glad I'll have a bit of a heads up.

    CT Brewers Check-In

Live in Bristol, relatively new to brewing, on all grain now. LHBS is Brew and Wine Hobby in East Hartford , very friendly and helpful. There is a newish brew club, Fermenters of Central Connecticut, that meets at Brew and Wine Hobby on the second Thursday of every month around 6:30PM.

First time adjusting water; does this look right?

Thanks, didn't realize the science sub-forum was a better place for this, I'll probably just move this if possible or delete/lock it otherwise. I'll have to work on that EZ water spreadsheet and see what I come up with.

First time adjusting water; does this look right?

I got a water report done at Ward Labs and I'm going to try to adjust my water for the first time. I'd appreciate some tips/feedback to make sure I'm doing this right. Here's my water report from Ward: 7.4 pH 77 ppm Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) Est 0.13 mmho/cm Electrical Conductivity...

First Time Step Mashing Question, Beta Glucanase Rest

I ended up skipping the beta step on mine, after talking to my LHBS guy I was finally convinced that it was going to be too much trouble. He recommended doing a decoction mash if I wanted to try a rest, but I didn't feel up to trying that yet.

First Time Step Mashing Question, Beta Glucanase Rest

This is my first time using rye and I'm only going for 20% Rye, so I really don't think I need one, but it seemed like a good opportunity to learn how. If you've managed 30% without rice hulls I'll probably skip out on those. After thinking about it I'll probably just go with the thinner...
