    Sparge Speed

You will get a higher efficiency if you sparge very slow. I do 10 gal and take 1 hour to sparge. I get high 80's for my efficiency. I did 24# grain and pretty-boil 13 gal with 1.090.

    Scotch Ale. An aquired taste?

I agree with the too much smoke, I only use .25# in a 10 gal batch, only a hint of smoke. I don't want to drink a pint of liquid smoke!

It's official starting my own brewing business!

Defiantly not calling you dumb. If regulations are different where you are, very cool and keep us posted. I'm sure PA it is way tougher with anything. People who come here have no idea that all liquor is sold in state stores-only. Cant get beer in supermarkets and other stores. I need to move to...

It's official starting my own brewing business!

Yeah. And I did wish him luck too. I'm not telling him to not bother. I decided not to because I chose that. Dont go after me because I know of information that I'm trying to pass on to the author and others who re reading this post. There is nothing "funny". I was interested in doing this...

It's official starting my own brewing business!

About the bucket. You can't reuse them. They aren't designed for washing and reusing. Whatever comes in it, that's it. Like a soda bottle, you can't reuse them at coke and just wash and reuse. All the buckets are food safe, only one that are like the brand cambro are washable...

It's official starting my own brewing business!

I just read the whole thread and good luck. But I would have to agree with the "haters" that have replied, not to shoot you down, just to agree with them that it seems like there are a lot of issues with federal, state and local requirements you haven't researched yet. Not trying to be negative...

    Kegging wine?

Well with co2 with really low pressure it will work but when you get low on wine it will start to carbonate, and it will dispense really slow

    Kegging wine?

use a 100% nitrogen tank, wont carbonate and will hace pressure to serve with a tap

Gas line size for all grain stand

Are you doing a single tear? Send me a pm. I'm redoing mine right now and I'll send photos

Using outdoor burner in enclosed porch

Just do it, I brew with a 3 burner single tier on my porch about the same size as yours. All windows are also screens. I am using natural gas though. I have been doing it for years. No issue with anything. If you are doing a single burner get a full sheet tray, used in restaurants for boil over...

Gas line size for all grain stand

For your regulator. Use the 11" wc. Same low pressure on found on grills. I'm using 1/2" pipe but frankly 3/8" is fine too, I've seen setups with 1/4" with high pressure burners with no issue. For your orifice size, you need 3/32" for a good balance of Btu and efficiency.

Natural gas burner - need regulator?

You just cant switch from NG to LP with a regulator, you have to change the orifice. On low pressure LP for a 10" banjo your opening is 3/32". And natural gas is 1/8". You can change the orifice for the amount of btu's you need. I have a single tier setup with 1 10" banjo and 2 7" banjo. I...

    Going to LP?

I have been on NG for a while in my house and brew with a 15 3 tier setup. I’m moving to a new house but no NG or LP. I want to have a LP tank installed for brewing and here are a few questions for you guys, Is 100lb big enough or should I go with a 250? What is the pressure coming out of...

    Silicon tubing for fly sparging?

I would suggest the blichman auto sparge, I use it with my 15 gal 3 tier system and with fly sparge you dont have to watch the HLT in flow rate, only your MT out. It will keep your setting of 1"-2" of water above the grain bed. I have used it at least 25 times with no issues. I do use 2 pumps...

    10 gallon batches

Exactly, I use the homebrew shops kits, which are extract. I want to do them but all grain, so they convert the extract to grain and use the same steeping grain for mashing grains. I get two different answers at the same store. Some say double others are saying what you are. .5 to .75. Where...

    Extract VS ALL GRAIN (Questions)

I do all grain now because I like it and I like the hobby part of brewing. I would only say extract is fine for most beer styles but lighter beers. If you use LME then I think you get too many caramel flavorings. With L-DME it is better. I find it harder to make a dry stout with LME compared...

    Is recirculation really necessary?

I think it also depends on your system. If you use a Rubbermaid setup then only a little. I use direct heat on my batches, and they are always 10 gallon so I use constant recirculation. I think the sugars will not be wasted if that was you concern. You recirculate before sparging so you...

    10 gallon batches

Im basically doing 10 gallon all grain batches now. At my local shop where I buy the kits they provide and have them switch it to all grain from extract, Im getting mixed signals about specialty grains. Some tell me when using all grain you don’t need as much. So, when I double the recipe they...

Force carb and priming sugar issues

Just to give you more info, if I get a leak in my HLT that recalculates, the drip line dried chalky white. After I drain the tank it is full of white chalky stuff all over. The beer bottled or forced kedged, tastes like soda that has been opened once then reopened, stiff fizzes and foams when...
