6 gallon glass carboys available for pickup in LA

Hey, got some messages on these. They actually sold already. I am thread-tarded, and don't know how to take this thread down.

    Bobby_M Sight Gauge

I must also chime in in praise of these things. I fired my keggle with a sight glass for the first time two weeks ago, and it worked perfectly. Big thumbs up to Bobby M for this and his other contributions to the brewniverse.

6 gallon glass carboys available for pickup in LA

I've got four carboys I'm looking to get rid of. Local pickup only, and I'm Los Angeles. $30/carboy.

    keggle squeals

Funnily enough, there was an odd burning smell, which I chalked up to using a bbq grate set on top of my turkey fryer to widen the burner surface. The grates were new, and I figured that there just must have been some residue on them. Also, the keg has a sticker on the underside, which...

    keggle squeals

yeah, definitely the keg. Concerned as anyone would be, I transferred the wort out of that one and into the HLT (also a keggle) on the same burner. No noise from the other keg. It's odd, since there's nowhere on the keg that pressure could get trapped. I was thinking maybe some moisture...

    keggle squeals

So, I just fired up my keggles for the first time, and noticed that one of them makes a faint squealing noise when heated. I've read about the fabled exploding keggles, but this one has the holes drilled into the bottom lip, and doesn't appear to be sealed. Anyone else encounter this...

    Das Ghettobrauerie!

that is a 10g cooler. Good call on the tank, I'll have to move it. basically the top is cut so I can stir the mash without having to take off the lid. If it loses to much heat, I've got a second lid with no holes. So far at 22 min, no temp loss tho.

    Das Ghettobrauerie!

Ah crap, I see the first version of this thread posted. Sorry to double up.

    Das Ghettobrauerie!

I thought I just posted this, but it looks like my computer farked up. So here's my recently upgraded setup. Not so earthquake-safe, but hey, it makes beer, so that's good enough. First, my new MLT... And a shot of the whole setup. What does HBT think? I'm just about to...

    Das Ghetto Brauerie

OK, so maybe it's not pretty, and maybe it's not earthquake safe, but dammit, I'm pretty stoked about my recent upgrades. Here's a few picks of my upgraded MLT... And here is a shot of the whole setup. So, there you have it...another seriously g-rigged brew setup...

Look what I did with MY Saturday...

Thanks! I'm looking forward to taking her for a spin tomorrow with a nice mild brown ale.

Look what I did with MY Saturday...

So, I've been lurking in the HBT threads, studying your ways... ...and this weekend I finally built my first keggle and CFC chiller.

    Blow Off System

take apart your three piece airlock, and jam a 3-4 foot long piece of vinyl tube onto the inner piece. I think 3/8 ID tubing works, If I recall. Then just jam the stopper into your carboy and run the tube into a small bucket half full of sanitizer. I use an empty LME jar for the job.

    three tier setup-design phase

Xakk...that's a great idea. I shall return to my sketchupatory. And I shall put the rag in the busket.

    three tier setup-design phase

7 out of 8 chiropractors agree on that one. I plan on mounting a single march pump to pump wort through my CFC chiller and into the old busket.

    three tier setup-design phase

Hello HBT, I'm upgrading from my current AG setup, consisting of a turkey fryer and a couple of stools, to a more, ahem, respectable setup. I live in the freak kingdom of LA, though, so space I DON'T have. I do my brewing on a tiny-ass balcony. As such, I worked up a quick drawing of a...

    igloo mash tun build question

with the locknuts screwed down all the way, it still leaves about 5/8. And tipping is not an option. I'm thinking maybe a different elbow fitting with a longer thread.

    igloo mash tun build question

Hey all, I'm building a mash tun using a concave SS false bottom in a 10 gallon igloo, and when the bottom came today I noticed that the fitting sits approximately 5/8 of an inch above the floor of the tun. With a radius of 6.5 inches, that leaves a volume of almost 1.5 quarts of dead...

    Do I make the grade?

Since you brought up Molybdenum, here's another Q...molybdenum disulfide? I've got a couple fittings that are coated in this stuff kicking around from other projects, and I wonder if I can use them in my brewery? My gut says no, but I don't know much about the stuff. Can it be removed with some...
