Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

Hey man... Hygrometer.. Hydrometer.. Cut me some slack! I'll blame my poor liver... :bott:

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

Funny story... I brewed this again trying a BIAB method. When I got my OG, I didn't notice that I broke (another) tip off my hygrometer, and I figured my efficency was way down because it was my first BIAB and I ground the grains a long time ago... too many kids and too busy.. So, I kept...

    Gearing Down

The last batches I've done, I was following the Palmer book and fermented in the primary for 3wks - month before racking out to bottles. IIRC, he said that there were secondary products being broken down in the primary long after co2 was being outgassed. If I go back into the primary, then I'm...

    Gearing Down

This thread is awesome - exactly what I was looking for. I bought a 128oz uKeg last year and haven't even used it, but wanted to do a smaller biab to force carb a gallon at a time in the uKeg. Sounds like I need to get familiar with beersmith to scale down recipies. I don't mind doing a 3...

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

Beautiful! I'm thinking it might not be worth the work to go through a 1 gallon batch and just do a 5 gallon batch, store the beer uncarbonated in the fridge, and then carbonate a gallon at a time.

American IPA Dogfish Head 60 Minute Clone (AG) & Extract

Just curious about this recipe.. Beer memory isn't perfect... but dfh60 has been showing up in our parts on tap in several places, and after trying it a few times, I was very underwhelmed. I seem to recall it was a good brew in the past, but memory could be foggy, recipe could have changed...

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

Hey all - I was thinking about doing a gallon micro-batch in my gallon ukeg. It's been a few years since my last batch of this and checking to see if anyone had any suggestions for sizing it for a gallon final product.

    "Kegging" to a Ukeg 128

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but got a black friday deal on a ukeg 128 and finally thought I would try a little BIAB or kit brew batch and this is where my search brought me. I was just about to try a BIAB when I last brewed, when a little tree stand accident left me with a broken back and I...

American IPA Dogfish Head 60 Minute Clone (AG) & Extract

I didn't see it in the thread... but I was wondering in anyone uses the 'American Pale Ale' base malt for the 2-row? My LHBS has both and wondered if it might be a good match. The description of it here says you can use it when you want a solid malt backbone. However... older I get, the less...

Using a pasta maker to mill grain.

Don't clean it with water! It's food grade grease to protect the mechanisims inside. We had a bunch of black streaks on our pasta when we were rolling our sheets out, so that's how I know (I called KA and asked what the deal was). Run a throw-away batch of pasta dough through it and that will...

    BIAB Brewing (with pics)

Hey guys - I want to try this out... but not sure what voile is!!? Is it like a sheer curtain? Cotton? Nylon? Avoid colored material?

    Which Pliny?

I was wondering about the bottle I tried. I thought there was a bit of a sweet taste to it, but since I've never had PLE, so I'm not sure if that's part of the taste profile or not. It could have been that I had to substitute a little lighter crystal than was called for, or maybe it's only...

    Which Pliny?

Just wanted to chime back in here - but wanted to :mug: y'all for the help here. I did my specialty grain batch 5 weeks ago - and just had my first bottle. It was awesome! I used the bru'n water spreadsheet and figred out to add a little pickling salt / baking soda / epsom salt to try to...

    Building a starter

So is there a public domain estimate for the slurry (I assume you just pitch the slurry and not the wort)? Ie, 1 cup slurry = 1 billion cells etc? I know it's just an estimate but I would lose count at about 126,392 and then have to start over when my depends blow up.

    BIAB Brewing (with pics)

That makes sense - i wasn't thinking it through. Post boil would have no hot break on the dme.

    Building a starter

Dragging up an old thread here - but when you build a starter, do you just use the flocculated slurry to estimate your pitching rate?

    BIAB Brewing (with pics)

Can you also correct if your sg reading isn't where it should be? As in, adding sugar to the wort to make up for a less efficient extraction?

    BIAB Brewing (with pics)

Whew! Finally read the whole thread! I'm excited to have a new use for my 20g crawdad pot when they're out of season :-) Re burning bags... Has anyone actually burned one? Reminds me about that experiment when I was a kid. Hold a flame under a styrofoam cup with water and without - check the...

    Which Pliny?

Crud.... when I did the OG it was 1.066 and should have been 1.07 - I just realized I forgot to put in the dextrose. Would it be ok to still add it now? Boil and cool it then pour it in the airlock hole? I brewed last Thursday night.

    Which Pliny?

I pitched two packets of ale yeast and it's gone a little nuts! Do I relax or worry? I'm just trying to keep the bubbler clear because the next day the top of the bucket was bulging out...
