    Did my Apfelwein go bad??

I have had a batch of apfelwein aging in the fermenter for about four months now. I took a look at it today and I think it has gone bad! I am mostly concerned with the slight white lacy stuff that was on the surface of the apfelwine as well as there appears to be some black spots around the...

    Second guessing my purchase

I think you've already had enough if you are taking a deposition from a jug of apfelwein. :tank::tank:

    Second guessing my purchase

So, several weeks ago I was cleaning my glass carboy is preparation for making a batch of apfelwein when it suddenly proved that gravity is still functional. Aside from having to clean up (no injuries) it wasn't a big deal since I had been contemplating replacing it with a Better Bottle or...

    My Apfelwein story

It didn't smell like vinegar but it sure tasted like vinegar. Oh well.

Funny things you've overheard about beer

    "Try a Zima, it's good!"

    My Apfelwein story

Too cold to crash it outside. (14F last night). I filtered about 2/3 of a quart through a coffee filter and now it is in the refrigerator to crash there for a while.

    My Apfelwein story

Both the wife and me do not think it smells like vinegar at all. It does have a fairly strong odor which I would describe as similar to a port wine or a sherry. It is also a smell where it seems to stick in your nostrils for a few minutes after smelling it. I am going to try to filter the mason...

    My Apfelwein story

Not yet. I'm trying to figure out how to clarify it. There is a lot of yeast (mold?) floaters.

    My Apfelwein story

Enabling necromancer mode..... I haven't touched this apfelwein since I posted this thread! :cross: For the last two years (3 1/2 years since starting a batch) the five gallon bucket of apfelwein has been sitting in my basement. It hasn't been air tight, but it has been dust tight. This...

    My Apfelwein story

Well, I changed my mind. When I opened it up yesterday, it looks like a dirty fish tank. It has a very strong alcohol odor, but it is slightly "off" in the odor. It almost smells like a strong port wine and is a very dark amber-gold color.

    My Apfelwein story

So...you know that axiom that beer making is a perfect hobby for lazy people? Well, I think I embody the very meaning of that concept. In the early summer of 2010, I decided to make my first batch of Apfelwein. Being the lazy person I am, it actually sat in the fermenter for about six months...

Is it wrong to RDWHAHB before church?

That sucks. I usually just leave flaming footprints on the lawn.

    Success!

Seven weeks ago I brewed a Brewers Best Scottish Ale kit. Four weeks in primary and three weeks in the bottle and I now have two cases of absolutely delicious, perfectly carbonated, deep dark red beer. I have read many people here say this is a hobby for lazy patient people....that suits...

    anagrams

Using my full name gives me "Drained and Wavy" which I think is absolutely perfect as a home brewery name.

    Brewery names--what's your story?

That's a great idea! An online anagram generator for my name gave me "Drained and Wavy" Perfect! :drunk:

Have I correctly identified these ingredients?

Thanks! Good to know I can at least read an ingredient list properly. Hopefully I can get to this in the next week or two.

Have I correctly identified these ingredients?

I am planning to make Orfy's Hobgolin beer as my first recipe beer (I have done kits up until now). I have identified what I think are the correct grains for this, but I would just like to make sure that I am talking about the correct stuff. I may or may not buy from the sources listed, I am...
