My Brewday: Brewing an Altbier for December

HSA is a non issue. You would boil the beer anyway, and if you are pitching the appropriate amount of yeast its not a problem.

    always getting diaceytl

Consult Mr. Malty, if you used a stir plate you could get away with a much smaller starter for a 1058 lager assuming you used at least 2 packs/vials of yeast. I agree with Denny, always need more yeast for the lager. the last one I did I used a 5L starter on a stir plate with 2 smack packs...

    always getting diaceytl

What was your mash temp? I usually go for 150-152 to end up with some sweetness and residual body, this could be what your tasting in your beer. A true diacetyl test involves heating up a sample to 150 then cooling it down, if you smell the buttery/popcorn flavor you've got it. As far as the...

    Oops

So I just finished making a Winter Ale using some oak chips. I searched through some extra parts I had laying around and found what I thought to be a stainless steel reducer. I used this to weight down the oak bag and went about my business, 7 days later I took out the bag and threw away the...

    Can LME go bad?

It might have some mold on top, but just scrape it off. The boil will kill anything you cant scrape off. I did the same thing, but left it in the pantry for 2mos. My oktoberfest turned out great.

    Did I ruin the disconnect

So I left some ball lock disconnects in some star san for awhile, 1-2months and the the threads became pink and corroded. Ruined? Easy to clean and safe to use? Or just scrap them and buy new ones for 1 few bucks?

    BIAB keggle false bottom

Hello team, I'm trying to find a cheap and easy DIY false bottom for my keggle to start BIAB. I was thinking of using a SS steamer, but the largest I could find was 11", leaving a good 3-4" of open space for the bag to fall through. Does anyone have a good idea how to accomplish this with...

    CO2 leak help

So, on sunday I realized that my CO2 tank was empty. It's a 5 lb tank that I've had since august of 2010. I've carbonated/served 4 beers and misc cleaning solutions. I took it to LHBS, and they refilled it. I got home and reconnected all hoses and hardware, heard the audible rush of co2 into...

    Austin Tx pre cut keggles

I have 2 pre-cut keggles that I no longer need. I upgraded to better pots, and I dont need duplicates. They are 15.5 gallon kegs, 12in diameter opening cut and sanded to a pain free edge. 7/8in drilled and sanded for a ball valve. This way you get a keggle with out having to do any of the...
