Homebrew conniseur -- this is hysterical!

I did a search and I don't think anyone posted this yet...it came across my Google feed. http://thehardtimes.net/news/homebrew-connoisseur-can-rank-worst-somehow-even-worse/

Session Mead - inspiration and recipe for an Unoriginal Clone

For a while, I've been thinking about brewing a lower gravity "session" mead, and I've finally gone and done it. I was inspired by a couple of things: first, I wanted to get my kegerator filled up! Also, I live very close to an awesome meadery, Apis. On a recent visit, they had a really...

    12 Beers Of Christmas 2016!

Having just survived the 2015 holidays, I've already started thinking about the next, and what homebrew my relatives might be drinking on Xmas Eve 2016...I know this past year I wished I had more ready and on tap! And with all this thought of holiday beers, it occurred to me: I think it's about...

    That's Odd, Let's Drink It! -- New Video/Series

Just got a link to this e-mailed to me... This one features Sam C. and Mario Batali, and I assume there will be other videos to follow, as they are billing this one "episode 1." Try to keep the DFH head bashing to a minimum....

    Hops save the bees!

Thought this might be interesting to those of us that love bees, honey and brewing (and in my case, a big hop head too...) http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2015/10/21/3714501/beer-for-bees/ I think I might brew another hop metheglin in celebration!

    Wild Fermented Cider

I'm cross posting this in Fermentation & Yeast in hopes of getting some more input... Originally posted in the Cider Forum: So in 2012 I had a little over a half gallon of cider that I had sitting in my kegerator that started to go crazy on it's own, and I eventually took it out and let it...

    Wild Cider Questions

So in 2012 I had a little over a half gallon of cider that I had sitting in my kegerator that started to go crazy on it's own, and I eventually took it out and let it finish...it ended up suprisingly good! I bottled a scant two bottles, and then the dregs of the container that this all occurred...

Brew Dogs - not a thread about canines

Check out this new show...the brewers from Brew Dog in Scotland running a muck in America sharing craft brew love! Looks like it could be pretty fun, and I'll be DVR'ing this one when it starts to run later in September:

    Runoff and temp drop...

Basic assumptions: I batch sparge. I generally drain off all my first runnings before adding sparge water. I mash in a Coleman Xtreme cooler, so I have no way to directly heat my mash to mash out temps. I only have one kettle and burner, so I must have my sparge water out of the kettle before...

Rocky Mountian Oyster Stout -- THIS TIME IT'S *REAL*!

Check this one out...a beer to make Sam Calagione or Randy Mosher proud! The April Fools Joke has been posted before, but looks like they actually brewed it! I love the "BPB" rating! LINK

    Happy Mead Day everyone!

I hope everyone is brewing or at least enoying some mead today! I'll be brewing up an orange blossom traditional mead later on. The LHBS is having a little festival...I may post some pics later...

    Albino Monkey Porter

This is a Robust Porter, with vanilla, oak, bourbon, honey and molasses... A couple people were interested in this recipe, so here goes...this is the first recipe I've posted on HBT... *Disclaimer* -- as of the time I posted this thread, the all grain version is untested. I have brewed the...

    Cold crashing technique...

Having just acquired a way to cold crash, I've never done it before... Questions: - After cold crashing, do you generally allow the beer to warm back up before bottling it? (I'm concerned about thermal expansion in the bottle...is this even an issue?) - If so, is there a "minimum" temp to...

thoughts/observations/questions on my first Decoction Mash...

So I'm brewing up a Weizen and figured this would be a good time to bite the bullet and try a decoction mash for the first time. Here's the grain bill: 4.75 lbs Pilsener (~47%) 4.50 lbs Wheat (~45%) 0.50 lbs Munich (~5%) 0.31 lbs Acidulated (~3%) So I created a mash...

    12 Beers of Christmas 2012!

Hello all! I'm going to bite and will volunteer as organizer this year... For the unfamiliar, here's the concept...(you can also check out last year's thread): - 12 different brewers each brew one of the "12 Beers of Christmas" -- recipes from Randy Mosher's book Radical Brewing. - We each...

    For all you Futurama fans...

    Future brewer?

I figured I'd share this here...my son (2 1/2 yrs) was playing yesterday...and was taking a glass of water and putting it on his toy grill...he then proceeds to tell SWMBO "I'm making beer!" SWMBO was kind of pissed...I on the other hand thought it was pretty hysterical (and was kind of...

    Yeast washing and Finings

I've tried searching for this info...there's a couple of similar threads (link Link linky yet another) with essentially the exact same question (how does the use of finings affect the process of yeast washing) ...AFAIK it's never adequately been answered -- lots of pretty valid...
