    Split bushing for grain mill?

Yep, it's made for it. Perfect. I figured as much but thought I'd double check before I ended up with the pulley spinning on the shaft. Thanks!

    Split bushing for grain mill?

I'm putting together a pulley system for my grain mill and the larger pulley I have requires a bushing to connect to the mill's shaft. Do you think this split bushing would slip on the rollers or should it power it just fine?

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

My first attempt at this went pretty smooth all things considered. I missed my mash temp by about 3 or 4 degrees because of the pumpkin (certainly not used to compensating for that) but no stuck sparges of any kind. The brew smelled fantastic and fermentation took off like crazy. The photo was...

    infected starter?

That's a good point about tasting it. It turned out to be fine. What I did figure out is this was caused by the coagulation properties of WLP007. When a little CO2 bubble forms on the bottom, a little layer of yeast goes riding up with it. Kind of crazy when you watch it actually.

    infected starter?

I'm planning on brewing today. I noticed these bulb like things coming up from within the yeast layer. There doesn't seem to be any sour or off smells in the starter, but I'm not looking to ruin my iipa today either. :) After they hang at the top for a minute they fall back down and by then a...

Harbor Freight Drill to turn Barley Crusher

Hard to say with certainty from the video, but you're right it does seem quite fast... Did you just order that drill? I personally use the 93632 drill because it is fully variable speed (even though the website says variable speed on your drill, it sounded like it was a on/off trigger. Am I...

monster mill vs crankenstein vs rebel mill

I've heard the Monster Mill and Crankenstein are great mills. I own the MM2 myself and have had really good results with it. Based on what I've seen through my research, the Crankenstein and Monster Mills are almost identical in performance. I personally only went with the Monster Mill because...

Upgrading from jet to banjo burner

When I went to all grain I bought a 20 gallon pot that is about 18" wide at its base. I currently have a burner very similar to the SP10 (jet burner). It can easily handle heating the water and boiling the brews, but obviously the rolling boil only happens at the very center of the pot where the...

    Good day to brew

Down in Charlotte we have some pretty decent wind speeds but fortunately no snow. I'm brewing passedpawn's cherry & beech wood smokebeer recipe this afternoon.

    Monster Mill

I opted for the MM2 pretty much because I didn't see myself needing 2" rollers. I haven't had a lot of time to use it so far, but I will say so far it's worked great. Much better than the mess my LHBS puts out. Also the support is excellent. When the mill arrived one of the plates was damaged...

    Graff (Malty, slightly hopped cider)

Just made this last night. I had a bit of a brain fart and dumped a full oz of hops in instead of just the half, so we'll see what comes. I figure worse case scenario I'll back sweeten it a bit to compensate, but I'm a bit of a hop head to begin with.

    Alcohol boil off during degassing?

Short answer is perfect. That's what I figured anyway. Thanks a bunch.

    Alcohol boil off during degassing?

So I wasn't able to find a direct answer to this question so I thought I'd ask. I know you can boil off liquids under vacuum at room temperature if you apply enough of a vacuum, as well as remove the CO2 from the wine. I was curious if the Vacu Vin could generate enough of a vacuum to pull out...

Joining the many as of late: first all grain

I thought the idea was to push the temperature of the grain bed up to ~170... Is that not correct?

Joining the many as of late: first all grain

So it appears now is the time to take the plunge into all grain brewing judging by the forums. Count me in as one of the many. Like most my first one didn't go exactly perfect by any means, but at the end I hit my SG and was only slightly over my volume without adding any light DME. So that was...

    Hiccup in the boiling process

I'm on my third batch of beer and I thought I read to add all the DME and the 1/2 gallon LME after steeping the grains. However I was supposed to only add the LME with 15 minutes left on the clock during the hops boil. Will adding the LME earlier in the process yield dramatically different...
