    Is this normal?!?!?!?

Yeah I screwed up and took my final gravity reading after I mixed in my priming sugar. The thing is my blow off hose stopped burping after 24 hours. I have left it in the bucket for 2 weeks even though I havn't seen and CO2 coming out. No I guess there is a chance that my bucket lid had a...

How much will priming sugar change my final gravity?

So I messed up and forgot to take my final gravity reading before I added priming sugar! I added 5 OZ priming sugar to a little less then 5 gallons. My starting OG was 1.053 and my final was 1.021. I hoping that the priming sugar bumped that up because it should have ended around 1.014. What do...

    Is this normal?!?!?!?

So I just bottled my first batch and it had this wierd stuff floating on top! Like I said this is my first batch but this just looks strange. It's been 2 weeks today since first putting my batch in my primary. I did not go with a secondary since this was my first batch. This was a KC Blvd Wheat...

How long till fermantation is done

I have the same exact type of question. My first batch was only bubbling violently for 24 hours. Now I do not see any bubbles blowing out my blow off tube. If I push down on the top of the lid though I do see my air bubble move up my tube so I know there is pressure. What gives?

    Question About Blowoff hose

Hey one more thing I have to ask. At what point should I switch to an airlock. After how many days pass does it get less likly to have a blow out. I don't want to switch to early and then experience a mess all over my floor and having SWMBO killing me.

I have to by some bottles for my brew that should be done in a few weeks and I was interested in the 16oz Ez Cap bottles that have they cap/cork built on the bottle with a metal harness that snaps them in place. Has Anyone used these before? Do you prefer them over regular crown capped...

    Question About Blowoff hose

Yeah I have the other end of the tube submerged in under about 7 " of water at the bottom of an other bucket. It started bubling last night and was going strong today till about 5. Since then it has not let out any more burps from the hose. I can't see the first phase of fermentation behind over...

    Question About Blowoff hose

I've made wine for a while and I know it's the same exact concept airlock vs blowoff house. If so why even mess with switching from hose to airlock? I just think it's openning your self up to contamiants or exposing your yeast to fresh O2. Do any of you guys just leave the blow hose on the...

    Question About Blowoff hose

I have a ton of airlocks but running a hose under water is the same thing though. Why expose my batch to open air if I don't have to? I rather keep her purring away with my blowoff hose if possible. My main concern is leaving the foam in the tubing.

    Question About Blowoff hose

Ok so I have my first batch under way and I'm using a blowoff hose because I have a 5 gallon batch in a 5 gallon bucket. There is about 1 1/2 to 2 inches of head space so I'm sure I will have some blowoff. Incase of blowoff and foam getting into my 1" clear pvc tubing should I clean it out...

    History of Beer in America

From what I read the prefered drink back then was hard cider and they also did applejacking. Supposedly beer and ale didn't become the prefered drink till many centuries later. Also the pilgrims planted the first United States apple trees in the Massachusetts Bay Colony.

Lid on top of fermenting bucket

Now I was thinking of making my 5 gallon kit with 4 gallons to give me a little extra head space and a higher ABV. But I think I'm going to get a blow off hose anyways just incase.
