    To oxygenate or not

I posted this in another sub-forum but I don’t think that one gets much traffic, so..... Well this is a first for me. I’ve been brewing for 7-8 years and worked part time as a brewer for a commercial brewery for 3 years....never had a bad batch. I brewed a breakfast stout on Brew Year’s Day...

    To oxygenate or not

Well this is a first for me. I’ve been brewing for 7-8 years and worked part time as a brewer for a commercial brewery for 3 years....never had a bad batch. I brewed a breakfast stout on Brew Year’s Day, OG 1.088. Hit all my numbers etc etc. It has coffee and chocolate additions. Pitched the...

    CO2 coupler

Hi everybody....just got back home from vaca and was happy to have see my new regulator, like this: http://stores.kegconnection.com/Detail.bok?no=475 from kegconnection waiting for me :ban: (had the neighbor's kid get my mail.) I went to fit it to my 20lb tank, and noticed there is no coupler...

Going to California on a Big Jet Plane...

...and want to know what microbreweries you guys suggest. We'll be in LA for a few days, then heading to San Diego (German for a whale's vagina...) for a few more. We are planning on seeing family, but don't have any real plans. My better half has asked me more than once what breweries we are...

    Michigan Winter Beer Fest

Anybody else going? And if you are, what are you looking forward to trying? We'll be getting to Grand Rapids on friday and staying the night...we got a hotel room downtown so we can "walk" home from the micros. It should be a great weekend....not only for the beer, but it's my birthday weekend...

    Floaties in bottles

Hey everyone....I made a 60 minute IPA clone about six months ago with great results. It has aged well and really tastes like the original. Anyway, I went into the basement this morning to grab a bottle for a guy at work, and when I picked up the Grolsh bottle, I noticed "sediment" on the walls...

    Frankenmuth Octoberfest

Sept. 16 - 19. Is anybody going? We'll be there on Friday the 17th. If it's anything even close to the World Expo of Beer, I know it'll be a great time. I've heard they have the German dancers put on shows etc and it's alot of fun. I'm hoping and assuming they will have a decent variety of craft...

Heading on a European cruise next week...

...and plan on hitting bars/pubs in every port we go to. We are sailing from Rome, and going to Naples, Venice, Athens, Santorini, Croatia and Turkey (don't have the port names right now, or the time to look them up.) Anybody have any suggestions as to what to look for? I'm hoping for some brews...

    Stocking up on supplies

I'm thinking alot of you can relate to this, so I thought I'd get some input from ya's. Sometimes its not always convenient to go to the "L"HBS to buy ingredients when I'm ready for a new batch. The closest one is about a half hour, which isn't bad, but it's not the best store. There are 2 real...

I don't play the lotto, but I hit the jackpot...

So I was talking with my neighbor a few weeks ago about beer and brewing, and he tells me his friend used to brew years ago but got out of it. He said they were meeting up for a few rounds later that week and he'd talk to him about it. He comes back the next day with a "shopping list" of...

    pitched yeast before checking OG

I meant to ask this right after I did it, but never got around to posting..... when I made my last batch, I forgot to check the OG prior to pitching the yeast. Will this affect the number at all? All of the instructions I've read say to check it then pitch the yeast. I'm really not too...

    Another hello from MI!

Hi everybody, I've been reading the forum for a little while now and decided to finally join. I belong to another forum, but I realized that one has alot less activity than this one and this is much more helpful. I brewed my 2nd batch of beer last week (Irish Red Ale.) My first batch was a...
