    Slow to Carb

Bottled my English Porter on 12/11 and tried a few slightly carbed bottles over the holiday break... Taste good (bit green) but no head and no carb bite. I'm only slightly concerned, just seems slow to carb. The beer is an English Porter (loosely based on RCH Old Slug) two week primary...

First PM and my own recipe

Made the move to partial mash, 4 lbs of grain in a large sack, steeped fir 90 mins in preheated oven (read that advise here, cheers to whomever I owe credit). The rest was normal extract and hop additions. I was a little dissapointed with missing my OG, till I just thought of the temp...

The kit was extract with about 2.5 lbs of specialty grains, so i took more of a mini-mash approach and worked hard on maintaing 150 degrees mash temp for about 45 minutes. Then strained and sparged prior to moving onto the normal extract additions...

    Must buy kegs...

Just finished bottling two batches of beer, and feel acomplished in doing a good job... But man the cleaning, cleaning, cleaning... Arghhhh! Bottling is easy if your only doing the filling part (SWMBO and my oldest son) but I de-labled, cleaned, sanitized over 100 bottles, and did all the...

I've got two...

    Cider test batch

Decided to try my luck with a small batch of cider today, scored a 1 gallon jug of pure apple juice at whole foods, heated 2 cups of it on the stove, and added 3/4 lb of light DME, then cooled it, added some Safale S-04 yeast and mixed it all back into the jug. capped with an airlock and now I...

Do I need to secondary a hefeweizen?

I want to make a hefeweizen, but my secondary will be tied up for the next 3 weeks with my stout. Can i get away with fermenting in the primary only, considering hefes are so yeasty.

2 Down, and more to go...

Well I got a home brew kit for my birthday about 3 weeks ago... and now I've brewed my first two batches of beer, a Sierra Nevada clone aptly named Hoppy BIrthday IPA, which is currently bottle conditioning. and an Irish Dry Stout, which I brewed yesterday. Sadly/gladly if feels like I'm getting...
