i could use a Carboy cleaner because my attempts at making one have not been great. It looks like a great product, and i've always wanted to buy one, but i've got no more pennies for it!

my SS and copper immersion chillers work great. i know all the numbers for cooling and thermal conductivity, but i'm willing to sacrifice 4-5 minutes of my time for the SS immersion chiller to cool versus the copper. The inability of being able to see inside my old copper IC was enough for me...

I'd figure a way to add the peppermint later, maybe a tea at bottling. that peppermint oil is very volitile, and it may not be there when you want it during the long primary. may want to add some extract to taste at bottling time? and you'll have to add some peppermint sticks to the boil just...

Ok, seriously. I use them when I mash, but not during the boil, and only in my garage. I like the long ones, the darker the better. just make sure you don't get too close to your burners becuase they will melt to your legs, and it really hurts.

Very interesting...but you guys are sweating a fire marshall? I live in Utah and every day when i brew, my neighbors give me the stink eye so bad i might as well be slitting the throats of kittens i stole from the burn unit at the local shriner's hospital. too bad for the hassle you are...

Actually i changed my mind. I think for my next brew i'll oxygenate my primary as usual, then fill the headspace with hydrogen. I'll place a candle right next to my airlock. when fermentation starts, the CO2 will push out a burp of hydrogen, it'll ignite, and i'll know when my fermentation...
