I am brewing a new version of this recipe since I am back in an apartment and don't have room for all grain. The numbers are all pretty close to the original recipe. I am most excited about swapping the black patent for Carafa III (I love Carafa III). Also, I think the addition of the Maris...

For all of the times I have thought about oaking a batch, I must admit, I never have. So I have nothing to offer in useful information. I would recommend asking around on the forum or searching. Let us know how it turns out if you push forward with brewing it. Good luck!
Let me know how yours turns out! Some things to keep in mind with dry hopping are that if you dry hop for too long you end up imparting a grassy flavor (not desirable) and hop aroma does fade over time. The latter affects you because big beers need some time to age. So for ideal results I would...
I did not transfer this to a secondary. When I brewed it I lived in a 400 sqft studio apartment and didn't have room for extra stuff (hence 10lbs of extract rather than at least a partial mash). I didn't have any issues dry hopping in the primary either. If I recall, I waited about 3 or 4 weeks...
Glad to hear that you are enjoying it AnCapJake. You summed up this brew pretty much dead on, lots of color and flavor but exceptionally drinkable. Bigger isn't always better.
Glad to hear you are liking this brew so far. This is one of those beers that is great fresh so you don't really have to worry about letting it sit at all.
Hi AnCapJake,
Your boil volume can be 3 gallons and then top off.
If you are going to substitute grain for the DME, I would use a base malt (2-row) and do a partial mash(brew in a bag). Adding extra chocolate and black patent malts aren't going to add the same fermentables and will change the...
blakie, I would set a case of it aside for aging! Trust me, if you give it a few months you will be happy you did. It gets better with some time. Enjoy!
Shadows, that looks great. The head has the perfect deep tan color. When I made the original recipe way back when, that was one of the primary objectives. How do the coco nibbs come through? When it warms up a bit(I'm in VA now) I am planning on brewing this first thing and I had always...
Hi Cultkid,
Let us know how the tasting goes, I am excited to see what they say. The blueberry is a very original addition to this brew and sounds like it is in the background enough for it to be a solid addition.
Aschecte, sorry for the late reply. How is it coming so far? Is the carbonation better? Regardless, this brew opens up to a whole new level after a few months of aging. Be patient my friend.

First off, that is weird that the recipe said to secondary after 3 days. But most importantly can you post your recipe so we can determine what your numbers should look like. Milk stouts finish at a high FG because of the intentional use of non-fermentable sugars. It isn't uncommon for my milk...
