What's the trick for whirlpool...I can't seem to get it!

I have the same problem as well. I chill, pull out my IC, and then stir the **** out of it before putting the lid on and letting it rest for ~30min. Still don't get that nice cone that I've seen. I think my next move might be towards a hop spider, so I can keep the hop bits out at least...

First Wort Hopping - Slightly Different

From what I understand, FWH is adding hops to the kettle and then draining wort from the mash into the kettle all while heating it. In my setup I currently have a 15 gallon pot. I mash in, and start heating the sparge water sometime during the mash. I drain the first runnings into a bucket...

South Jersey/Philadelphia Group HOP Buy #9!

Ah, okay. I'm actually only looking for pellets, not whole. Thanks though.

South Jersey/Philadelphia Group HOP Buy #9!

Know of anywhere that sells bulk Citra or Simcoe for reasonable prices?

Any of you ever met a hop you didn't like?

Summit. Blah, I really can't stand the flavor that this hop gives. First had it in OB's Gubna, and I found it repugnant. That meaty, garlicy flavor is just not my cup o' tea.

Any idea when this year's crop will be in/the next group buy will be?

First Time Kegging - A Question Regarding Hops

I cold crashed the beer for a few days so that it would be ready once it was in the keg, and when I transferred it was distinctly hoppy, so I don't think loss during fermentation is the problem. My friends and I are brewing again on Saturday, and we'll be drinking the pale ale when we do so...

First Time Kegging - A Question Regarding Hops

Hi Everyone, I just kegged for the first time on Monday, and the beer was actually my first all grain, a pale ale. I was planning on burst carbing, so I set my regulator to 30 psi and left it. I checked it the next day, and the pressure had fallen to between 20 and 25 psi. I said whatever and...

Taking it to the edge...Pumpkin Doppelbock

I have no help to offer you as I've never brewed a lager, but I must say that this sounds like an awesome idea. I have also never brewed a spice beer before, but something to think about would be whether or not that amount of spices will show through such a big, malty base.

My Attempt at a Pumpkin Ale :/

A question for the OP and anyone who has designed their own pumpkin ale recipe...what do you consider the ppg of pumpkin to be? How much additional strike water would you add to your mash tun for the addition of pumpkin?

    Columbus, Centennial, Citra

I made a IIPA a few months ago with Citra, Columbus, and Amarillo as the late hops. I'm not the biggest Columbus fan, I've determined, but it definitely did work well overall. As soon as I tasted it, I realized that I should have added some Centennial as well because I think it would have made...

    First All Brett

I think that once you get it carbed to the correct level the mouthfeel will be where you want it.

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

At the Extreme Beer Festival a few months ago, Sam Adams WTF. It honestly tasted like cherry Robitussin and Pine Sol mixed together. Another is King Lager. I would equate it to 90% random light lager and 10% of an Irish Dry Stout, with a shot of cheap rum dropped in.

Mr Malty wants a 3.5L starter

One of these (http://stirstarters.com/) could be an option, as they're only $42. I'm looking to get one within the coming months when I start brewing bigger batches.

    Lengthen Thermometer "Probe"?

My friend and I purchased a 15 gallon Blichmann Boilermaker yesterday for our upcoming brew-overhaul. We're moving over to all-grain in addition to using temp control and starters. We got the 15 gallon because I know that we'll eventually start making 10 gallon batches. However for the time...

    Blichmann Shortage

My friend and I just bought a 15 gallon Boilermaker yesterday at our LHBS. It was a "blemished" item, which turned out to just be some small markings on the inside of the kettle, but we got 10% off which was nice.

    A "real" cranberry lambic?

I've never tasted an actual currant, but aren't they supposed to be similar to cranberries? Consecration uses currants, so maybe that is a direction to think about, cranberries are similar enough.
