    Johnson Controls A419 Settings

10 deg over-shoot sounds like a lot. I was only getting 2-3. I had a 5-6 cu. ft. freezer with the A419. I Placed the probe in a small glass of water. The first time you cool, it will over-shoot a long way, as the water will cool more slowly than the air. After a day or so, they will...

Dead mouse in carboy, would you use it?

I'm just glad he walked right by my specialty grains and a 90 minute clone kit. Dumb mouse.

Dead mouse in carboy, would you use it?

I literally just found one of my carboys with a mouse in it today and simply cannot believe there is a thread on it. I plan to clean and sanitize, and I'm glad that there are other (normal?) people out there doing the same. I have some justification. This mouse can't have been there more than...

    Austin Home Brew $20 kits??

I ordered 3 and a perlick to hit $100. I plan to do the vodka preservation trick on at least one, as I will be loaded with brews by the end of the month. I usually stove-top all-grain and keg, but will try out extract and stock up on bottles for this bonanza. I ordered IPA, Wit and the...

I brew 5 gallon batches in a 30 qt pot on my stove all the time. Just keep an eye on it coming up to boil, I don't use fermcap.

    Rebel Brewer

I ordered some in-line valves for my beer tubing. They leak. Not a good situation right now.

    Johnson Controls A419 Settings

I duct tape a thawed ice pack to the fermenter then put the probe in between glass and pack. Works great for getting an accurate temp of wort regardless of fermenting stage 1 deg dif.

    First Kitchen All Grain

I use a 30qt ss pot wrapped with aluminum/bubble wrap insulation and can get a rolling boil(220) in about 45 min.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Yesterday I brewed a Fat Tire clone. It's my first time fermenting in my Johnson Control-led deep freeze, and it seems to be going beautifully.

    Bourbon Pecan Pie Ale

So the next question for all who are following...who's gonna take this experience and run with it. If I didn't have my next two batches of grains sitting in my kitchen...

Hop Head Double IPA - When to Bottle

I had this exact thing happen to me brewing Hop Head - see my post here It was my first brew, so I thought I was crazy. I just left it 2.5 weeks in primary before kegging. I hit all my gravity targets, and it turned out great. I don't know what they have in that recipe that makes the yeast...

    Fermentation done?

I'm using glass, so I'm sure its sealed. The only reason that I say that it stopped and started is because visually the yeast was circulating around the first 3 days, then all settled to the bottom (beer cleared up a bit and temperature dropped). Then today, its visually circulating around...

    Fermentation done?

I have a double IPA that is in my primary right now that is confusing me. It was a fast, vigorous fermentation for ~3days, then appeared to almost completely stop. I had planned to keg today (2weeks in primary) since it appeared to be finished, but I returned from a trip last night and the...
