    Batch #3

what temp did you take your gravity reading at? Hydrometer readings need to be adjusted based on temp of the liquid. I assume your kit was extract based? I've had some extract's that have kind of a ... tangy taste on the back end - hard to guess at. On the clarity issue do some searches on...

Should I move my fermenter to a warmer climate?

could just be a fast one. Still, no reason to rush. Let it condition for a while in the primary. I remember when I did my first batches I was always in such a hurry to get to the next phase - now that I've been brewing for years I just kinda forget about it for 2-3 weeks or so and the quality...

    Developing Recipe, Opinions wanted

sounds pretty good - I might simplify the hop additions just go with the full amount of cascade up front or even FWH it. but ya looks really good. I'd drink it! ;)

    Developing Recipe, Opinions wanted

I agree with PT_ray about the Pils and Vienna. Something like 70-75% wheat, 15-20% extra light LME/DME and 5-10% crystal 10L. it won't be as "big" for sure however. Cascade seems like a good choice to me. might go for some saaz toward the end and perhaps even finish it off with some perle...

Efficiency issues or am I doing something else wrong?

ahh, ok I get it. the braid runs around the entire bottom of the cooler but I could see how that would be a big issue. Thanks for explain' it for me ;)

Efficiency issues or am I doing something else wrong?

I'm using a 10gal rubbermaid rectangle cooler as my mash tun Using a ball valve and a hose braid to get the wort out - pretty standard home setup. I'm fly sparging from a siphon keeping about 2" or so of water above the gain bed. What's "channeling"? Thanks for the advice and help - I'm...

Efficiency issues or am I doing something else wrong?

My last brew was my 5th using this setup the first 2 game out perfect. The last 3 have all been low. I'm going to try a batch sparge on my next attempt and play for like 60% eff. see how it goes I guess. the last 3 batches I just boiled longer to get my post boil gravity but I'm ending up...

Efficiency issues or am I doing something else wrong?

So I'm not sure what's up so I figured I would turn to you guys for some advice. The last 3 AG brew's I've done I've missed my gravity big time. I'm calculating my efficiency at 70%. But I'm hitting my target gravity far before I get the correct amount of wort out of my tun. For example...

Why shouldn't I use One Step Sanitizer?

+1 plus you can use iodophor to do a starch conversion test.

Fermentation can take 24 to 72 hrs to show visible signs.

doing my first lager - pitched the yeast saturday afternoon. Pretty sure I under pitched for a lager (used 2 wyeast actavitor liquid packs for a 5 gal batch - no starter, did not "smack" it first either). Pitched it cold (50F), moved it to my lager fridge and set the temp to 50F 48 hours -...
