    Emergency Beer Recipe Help!

Sorry for posting this here, but it is of the most urgent importance! Due to a variety of reasons, I will have a very limited window to purchase my brewing ingredients from the LHBS and was wondering if this recipe would be good for a nice blood orange heffe! I don't like very wheaty ones, and...

    First Brew in 8 Months

Thanks for that recipe, I'll definitely look into it! And might have to sample the dogfishead brew, if I can find it.

    Tell me about pumkin ale

You have to be careful with pumpkin ales, as I either LOVE them or completely hate them, and can't even drink them. I'm not sure what the difference is, but there seems to be some variation in basic recipe that produces two very distinctly different flavors... I personally love Shipyards...

    First Brew in 8 Months

Been brewing beer since December 2009, but I slacked for much of 2011 and have not made a beer since last Christmas. I'm hoping to get back into things though as I've saved up plenty of bottles and have a gift certificate to my LHBS. Anyways.. I was hoping to make some sort of a blood red...

    Disappointing 2nd Year Harvest

I have it in a half whiskey barrel, climbing up some strings about 10 feet tall, and then lettimg them climb alond a horizontal rope. They grew fine, must faster than last year, but they produced about the same hops. I was excited because of how well they did last year, and thought I had a very...

    Disappointing 2nd Year Harvest

I was under the assumption that any hops you get in the first year are a bonus, and once you reach the 2nd year, your hop plant will start producing lots of cones. In 2010 my then first year Cascade grew great and produced about 20 cones. This year, the same Cascade grew great again, but...

    Couple of insect ?'s

I'd be careful with the insecticide. You can't use very strong pesticides, as you'll be consuming the hops. I've been told insecticidal soap is just about the strongest you really want to be using to spray them.

    Trimming a plant now?

Yeah, I figured it shouldn't bee too bad. It's not like I have 15 bines, I have 6 and none of them seem to really be holding it back. I'll just see what happens. It seems to be a very healthy plant, as it produced 2 shoots that yielded about 25 cones last year. Hoping this year I cash in!

Will Hops grow sideways across a chain link fence?

They will always grow verticle on their own, but if there is no other option, and you continue to train them, they will grow sideways. I actually have Cascade hops too. In their first year they reached the top of my trellis and I trained them to go sideways across the rope without problem. I...

Dammit, It happened again! Bananna bubblegum beer.

I'm by no means very experienced as a homebrewer, but aren't those off flavors usually attributed to some sort of infection (if temperature is not a problem)? It might just be old equipment. Everything I've read concerning mystery flavors, colors that don't seem to have any obvious cause have...

So disappointed in my beer tasting

It was Sunset yeah, but I figured a place that prided itself on having all these different exotic weird and rare beers would...have some of the rare beers I wanted to try haha. I had never had any of the beers I tried though, so it was still worth it for me. Plus it's not as if I drove 100...

    Trimming a plant now?

So is it safe to trim the smaller shoots back? I mean the "smaller" ones are probably around 8 feet at this point, and the taller ones around 10-12. They were all similar until about the past week or so when a few of them really took off. I just don't know if it's bad to trim the plant this...

    Trimming a plant now?

So disappointed in my beer tasting

I went to this place in Boston that suppossseddlyy had like over 500 different varieties of beer. They had beer menus that were pages and pages long, double sided. The walls were lined with infinite numbers of different beer cans and bottles...I thought I was in heaven! So I tried to ask for...

    Trimming a plant now?

So I was a bad hoppie grower and I didn't trim the shoots to only 4-5 strong ones....as there were about 7 that all seemed to be growing the same rate for a while.....however recently I can see that there probably is 3 to 4 really strong shoots that are probably around 10-12 feet tall, while the...

    2nd Year Hop Growth

Hmm what's root-tone and perlite? Haha I'm really not much of a gardner. Yeah, the Cascade was a very healthy hop. It did great in it's first year, produced cones on 2 shoots, so I'm not really surprised it's doing great now.

    2nd Year Hop Growth

Hmmm well I may have to do some trimming. I've got about 20 shoots right now all growing about 1 foot each, some more some less. I guess I should cute all but the 4 strongest of them then

    2nd Year Hop Growth

To be honest I'm not 100% sure myself haha.....

    2nd Year Hop Growth

I'll have to monitor which shoots seem to be the strongest and fastest growing and keep trimming the weaker smaller ones back then.
