    Using toasted coconut?

I usually use about a bag and a half per 5 gallons. Could tweak either way to taste. I toast it on parchment paper on a baking sheet. mix it frequently to keep edges from burning and try to make sure there is no white. then I dump it onto paper towels to see if I can soak up some extra oils...

    Kona Brewing Koko Brown Ale

seems too hoppy to me and I feel like the roastier malts conflict with the coconut taste. This is mine, that I've tweaked a few times. https://www.brewtoad.com/recipes/mad-coco-nutz-3-918c39

    Successful Peanut Butter Stout

Personally I made mine with real peanut butter. should've been more patient with the de-oiling process because you could sorta detect a film on the top and in the aroma, but turned out well. 39.5 at LongShot actually.

    New craft breweries in NJ

good place, if you like wheat beers particularly. Their Oktoberfest is highly thought of, thought not bottled. Recently heard there's going to be an actual brewery opening in Bergen County called Brix City. So that'll be neat.

    Sesame anyone?

Sesame Beer! I'm gonna make a Halvah Beer, because, why not? Still in formulation stage, bought a Halvah to eat and mull over the flavors. I'm thinking either brown or porter. Probably roast the seeds a little and mash 'em up. I think perhaps in a hop bag in primary or something to make...

    Calling Bergen County Home Brewers!

How's this going? I've been toying with the idea of joining a club and just haven't found the time. I know there's one out in Fairfield at Cricket Hill too.

Hops haven't surfaced yet this year

location? I planted for the first time this year (north Jersey) and am only seeing the first bit of hops leaves on one or two of the bunch I planted over a month ago.

Alternative Sugar Beer Captain P.B. Stout

Did the captain crunch really impart any real taste? Sounds yummy at least.

Here's what I did - Any advice for next time?

I have my doubts too, which is why I've never done it. :-D Maybe something else early though..honey? maple syrup? Make caramel in the pot before starting? someone stop me.

Here's what I did - Any advice for next time?

I've noticed some of that too, though I usually use dry. I actually find I achieve lower FG if I add it later on in the boil. Might be a coincidence but I wonder if I'd been accidentally scorching some of it into unfermtables. Which just leads me to wonder if I could create any interesting...

Here's what I did - Any advice for next time?

I'm pretty sure nothing would happen if you squeeze the bag. You seem to have the grain wrapped real tight there..I usually loosen it up to allow as much water to pass through and get the inner grains as possible. I don't think you'll get any off flavors from starting the grains where you did...

    Couldn't get beer to boil

Less water next time, or mostly cover the pot with the lid. (less heat escapes) Can even cover it completely to let it boil as it's probably a little easier to maintain temp than raise it.

    Kona Brewing Koko Brown Ale

re-brewing this like, right now. Coconut smells amazing. I'm also making chocolate munchkins at the same time. those smell good as well.

    Planning first brew

I'd avoid the twist offs, but if you're tight on bottles save a couple to use last. I've accidentally capped a few and I was able to turn them over and shake them without anything leaking out so they're probably fine in many cases. As I understand it, the cooling is more about beer clarity...

    Kona Brewing Koko Brown Ale

sounds good to me! The version I made (a while back now) had that creamy coconut undertone, but I think i overdid it with the roasty/coffee type malts so it got obscured a bit. keep meaning to make it again though.

I enjoyed Czech beer more than the German stuff myself.

Triple 777 Brewery in Las Vegas

Vegas seems to be picking up in terms of beer at least. Holsteins in Cosmopolitan had a pretty surprising selection when I was there. Didn't get to check out 777, but went to the Freakin' Frog which was a weird place, but good beer.

    Something off in my Oktoberfest

same package of yeast in fact. I've made it five times previously, over three years. It's actually the only beer I've made multiple times. maybe I got overconfident. If I recall (hey, this was like April) the pack got smashed on Saturday mistakenly. I did mix up a little bit of malt and...
