How do you test it to see if it's still accurate?

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I did 5 gallons of cream ale and my first 5 gallons of cider. Both were happily bubbling away within 24 hours. Going to brew 5 gallons of vanilla porter this sunday.

I'm not allowed to go to the beer store alone anymore...

I'm still doing extract kit brews and can't do one for under $50. $7 for bottled water, $10 on ice to cool the wort, plus the cost of the kit...but i bought a wort chiller today, so that'll save cash in the long run.

    Preparing for first Brew Day

Got 2 more Ale Pails from Midwest Supply and a Brew Belt last week. Now I'll be able to do 3 batches at once! Can't wait to bottle and taste the chocolate bock. Moved the fermenter down to the basement Sunday to let it sit in the cold a while before I bottle it this weekend.

    your addicted to homebrewing when......

Since it's almost impossible to brew without tossing back a few, isn't that calling in sick to drink??

    your addicted to homebrewing when......

When looking at a house, the biggest deciding factor is a second kitchen in the basement that would be perfect for brewing......

american cream ale tastes watered down

My Brewer's Best American Cream Ale is just a hair under 6%, and it's not watered down at all. Fairly strong flavor, actually. A month in the fermenter and 3 weeks in the bottle so far.

    Preparing for first Brew Day

I'm hoping the reading was off because of the cocoa powder I added to the boil. Whatever the problem, I'll wait and see how it turns out. If it doesn't ferment, I'll try again.

    Preparing for first Brew Day

Wow, that smoked porter is a tasty beer! Bought the kit for a European Bock last night. Didn't know it's suppossed to be a lager. Oops. Guess I'll be brewing it as an ale. A Chocolate Bock Ale.

    I hate pipleline

Been over 2 months, and my first batch (the smoked porter) is ready to drink. Very yummy! But it'll be another 2-3 weeks for the second batch to age, and I'm brewing the third batch tomorrow........Gotta brew more often.

Another reason to brew your own...

I think we all make more broken glass bottling our own over time than a couple rare cases that make it past a brewery's QC department....
