☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

Can someone explain to me please. Ceramic vs Steel burrs on coffee grinder. I have the Baratza Vario. The hopper wears out and will loosen during grinding after several years. The first time they sent me a free replacement. The second time I had to purchase. I bought a replacement and a...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

Local coffee shop guy gets fantastic coffees roasted less then 7 days for sale. Is so awesome. I only work at that particular office maybe 1-2 per week though.

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

I setup my roaster on a wire cart I bought on amazon. Did my own power cable for the 240v with junction box on the cart and a long cable in case I ever move can do in garage or laundry room or something. Currently my cart is in my "basement"/storage room. I had a e-brewery there but I haven't...

BTW, Been getting flip and crash curves, with ROR declining and then as approached 1C flips upwards and then crashes. Sometimes the flip is more of a volcanic eruption than than a flip... Wondering if my US 240V setup behaves much differently than the 120V in trying to follow others...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

Somewhere I have a sample bag of Hawaiian Koka Maui? I forget exactly, but its supposed to be great. I never attempted to roast because the beans are smaller than unpopped popcorn kernels, Maybe around the size of a lentil or a little bigger. Smaller than those next to the dime. @pshankstar...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

Finally roasted my coffee. I also did my mylar bagging with oxygen absorbing packet in #1lb packs of my latest beans: about 19 pounds worth, the oldest was like a YEAR old and I had only roasted one pound form the 5 pound bag! Hopefully I will be more consistent in my roasting habits the rest...

Other advice on learning the bullet: Change one thing at a time. Until you feel you got a handle on things, stick with same charge weight/mass on every roast (if possible). Then begin fiddling with the variables, like preheat temp, preheat time, and other variables. I HAVE noticed that if I...

Nice DIY "bean chute" It throws them everywhere. I made one with sheet metal. It should come with one.

If you have muted 1C this is what I learned. When I began roasting I had been led to believe green beans don’t go bad, but living in FL need to keep them at comfortable room temp and humidity. I had amassed such a huge supply and then I learned they do indeed get stale and difficult to detect...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

I’ve been enjoying all the great third wave coffee from that local shop so much that I haven’t roasted in months!! The bullet takes getting used to. The 1C sounds are muted compared to my first roaster ( hot top). I dislike their proprietary roast software and inventory and even their social...

Chaff filter on the bullet cleans up beautifully if you get an ultrasonic cleaner with plain water and a splash of simple green it comes out looking new - keep meaning to post a pic of this. I have a Hornady cleaner (I am a reloader too) and it'll fit that model.

I love it he lighter roasts especially the Ethiopian dry process stuff with the fruit flavors and bit of acidity. Occasionally mix it up with darker American beans with chocolate flavors. A local guy had some monsooned dark roast that he gave me to try and was so smooth compared to other dark...

Tell me about your roaster there. Electric I assume? Max capacity? Cost? How do you control the roast or is it automatic? Are there settings you can adjust? TD

Haven't roasted any in a while. Will post results. Drum spacing sounds like no fun. I always get some beans that fall out of the drum somehow.

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

Too funny! My wife does not drink coffee so its just me. ditto on beer. I got like 10 kegs of sour beer from 2014-2016 never been tapped. Maybe needs to be dumped. So in other news, my Baratza (I think been bought out by Behmor??) Vario grinder bean hopper broke (again) and they sold me...
