Dance of the Dead - Blackened Rye DIPA

At 75% it would be an estimated 1.090 at 60% is was 1.081. You actually did correct yourself in the post before. no harm asking questions by the way.:mug: jkarp is correct, the flaked rye should be included in the minimash along with the 2-row. That is my bad, doh! I have edited the recipe...

Dance of the Dead - Blackened Rye DIPA

    1) While normally that much Carafa would be overkill, with the bitterness level it provides a wonderful buffer and prevented the beer from becoming over astrengent (an issue with many Black IPA's I found). 2) I had worries about the viability of the WLP001, so I added the dry yeast just in...

Dance of the Dead - Blackened Rye DIPA

Well first off, my estimate OG was to be 1.081 and my reading with the Hydrometer was 1.080. I guess that stratification could have been an issue but I really did stir the wort often after adding the Pils LME. Not sure what you mean by the last comment, I thought completed recipe go here...

    Jai Alai Cedar Aged IPA

I just had the White Oak Jai Alai I found that the wood took the edge off, almost too restrained. If I brewed this I would bump the hops up slightly, expect it to be very tropical however.

    Black IPA recipe

I would bump up the Carafa to a full pound and replace the Crystal with Victory malt, but that is just me. The hops schedule looks great, should be quite tropical smelling and deep bitterness. U go Ohio.

    Imperial Oatmeal Stout

I am attempting to use less or no caramel/crystal malts in my brews (unless absolutely required per style). Actually, the first stout recipe that I based this off of, did indeed have a 1 lb of C-40 in it. Replaced that with the Victory. I am still debating the flaked barley as well. Thanks

Dance of the Dead - Blackened Rye DIPA

Stats via Beer Smith Note: Efficiency only 60.00, got poor efficiency from the mini-mash but that equally increased the hop utilization. This is a two stage partial mash, see below. 6 lbs Pilsner Liquid Extract [Boil for 15 min] (39.34 %) 3 lbs Pale Malt (2 Row) US (19.67 %) 2 lbs Carafa...

    Imperial Oatmeal Stout

"Doris Get Her Oats", kicking around this modification of one of my stout recipes and wonder if I am using too much oat grains. Even with one pound of rice hulls am I looking a stuck mash? FYI, I do plan on roasting the Flaked Oats but not the Malted Oats. I am looking for a big bodied, creamy...
