    I made bubblegum!!!

Yeah, I don't think I fermented too hot and I'm sure I cooled the wort down good but somehow my attempt at a cream of three crops ale came up tasting like bubble gum today when I was bottling. We'll have to see what it's like chilled and after a few weeks of conditioning but I'm worried.

    rough day brewing

I was making an attempt at the cream of 3 crops ale https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f62/cream-three-crops-cream-ale-66503/ today and got a stuck sparge. Couldn't get it to go. I ended up dumping my mash into my kettle, working with my false bottom and valve, not seeing anything wrong, and then...

    Hops

Ok, so I know a higher alpha acid hops makes a more bitter beer, but what about hop flavor? Does that get stronger as well or are there any other differences? Does anyone know of a good chart for general flavors achieved from different kinds of hops?

    Whats your favorite hops?

I'm still fairly new to brewing so I've only used a few. Cascades, Amarillo, and Saaz come to mind. Just curious what some favorites out there are and what flavors they impart so I can continue to expand my horizons.

    first large AG batch

I did a small stovetop AG batch when I first started but I am now setup and doing a 4-5 gallon batch. I'm fermenting in 5 gallon buckets so closer to 4 gallon to leave head room. I'm finishing up my mash, so far so good, and getting ready to boil. iodine test looked good so I'm thinking I...

bad luck with a sam adams sampler

So in my quest to empty bottles I got a 12 pack sam adams sampler with 6 different styles. Unfortunately most aren't to my liking. 1. Coastal Wheat, I thought I would like this one until I found out it had lemon. Drank anyway :) 2. Creamy stout, I knew I wouldn't like that but tried one...

    Trying something crazy.

So since I'm under the weather I decided not to try and undertake my first full all grain batch until I'm feeling a bit better. Not wanting to waste a good brew day I decided to try something different. I'm making an apfelwein from juice concentrate. My goal is to bottle in 12oz with corn...

    Brewing when your sick

So here I sit, just bought a bundle of stuff to be setup to do an all grain batch and bottle a previous batch or two this weekend, and my nose is getting that all too familiar stuffy feeling. Is there any increased risk of contaminating my brew if I am infact coming down with a cold? My...

    Journaling methods

What method does everyone use for keeping a journal? I have been using a text file on my computer but that is quickly getting hard to navigate. I don't really want to use a spiral notebook either though.

    labels??

So does anyone go so far as to label their beer? The second end of this would be that I don't buy empty bottles so they already have other peoples labels on them. Does anyone know a good way to get those off?

Sampled 2nd batch and bottled 3rd batch today.

Chilled and sampled a beer from my second batch that has been in bottles for 1 week. It's good but not great like my first batch was so I guess it will get more time to condition in bottle. I also bottled my third batch and am noticing my skill going up greatly at that. Hopefully I will get...

Whats your carbon footprint... about beer, really.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer#Environmental_impact "A life cycle study of one beer brand, including grain production, brewing, bottling, distribution and waste management, shows that the CO2 emissions from a 6-pack of micro-brew beer is about 3 kilograms (6.6 pounds).[150] The loss of...

    Best homebrew website?

My lhbs isn't exactly that local at close to 30 miles away. Whats the best website as far as price, quality, and low shipping costs? I've used midwest supplies before but I got nailed with shipping costs through the roof. Just looking for a good balance for quality and price. Thanks in...

My patience, or lack of, got the better of me.

It's been 1 week since I bottled my first batch. I decided I couldn't wait any longer and threw 1 in the fridge to cool off and drink. All I can say is wow. It's probably not the best beer I've ever had (I drink mostly craft brew) but it's good and drinkable for sure. It's pretty light on...

    plastic carboys?

I've been thinking of getting some plastic carboys to increase my fermenting capacity without too much cost. I've read a bit on here saying the better bottle carboys are good but what if it's not better bottle? Anyone have any experience and/or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    soda next to beer.

So the corny kegs are actually for soda right? How hard would it be, and what would be required, to have soda next to my beer using an extra corny? Has anyone thought about or tried something like this? I'm no where close to being ready to keg but I figure if I can offer up a soda dispenser...

    New brewer from MO.

I just started my first batch of home brew the other day, not sure it's gonna turn out right but I already have a few ideas to improve on my next batch. Just dropping in to say hi for now.
