Recipe Critique - Dos Cerebros IPA

I am working on a new IPA recipe and I'm curious to hear any feedback before the brew. I think it will be tasty as is, however, I always learn new things when people critique my recipes. Thanks! Dos Cerebros IPA Stats: Recipe type - All-grain Batch size - 10 gal. Mash efficiency - 80%...

I agree YooperBrew. Thanks for the advice. I haven't yet done my research on PH, and don't quite understand it, so I think that is what I will look into next.

CaraPils/Dextrin Malt - How much to use?

Yea, I'm not really into the sweet pales or IPAs, so I'll take note. Sorry for not posting the mash temp., but I always have it b/w 150 and 154. I am curious, for my personal understanding, how does the presence Simcoe impact your thoughts about the usage of CaraPils?

NYCHomebrewer, Your responses are very insightful and much appreciated. Your in-depth answers to my original questions are a tremendous help. I think I am in a much better place moving forward. In regard to efficiency, I suppose I have been looking at it more as a direct correlation to the...

    The Mash/Sparge Conundrum

Yes, I have been pouring the first 10-or-so gallons of wort back onto the MLT and coining that as my "recirculation". Already, from your response and NYCHomebrewer's, I have learned that this is not necessary. All I need to recirc or "vorlauf" is the first bit until the wort is running clear...

    The Mash/Sparge Conundrum

Thanks! The reason I gently mix the mash is because I have to avoid dislodging the draining manifold at the bottom of the mashtun. If it gets dislodged, the drainage becomes a serious problem and the only way to fix it is to stick my hands down into the 150ish degree mash. Luckily I haven't had...

    IBA Recipe Critique

I am working on a new all-grain IBA recipe for a 10 gallon batch. I've never brewed an IBA, so I would love to hear any feedback from those more knowledgeable and experienced than myself. Thank you in advance for any shared insight! Stats: Mash efficiency - 73% Pre-boil - 1.055 OG - 1.059...

CaraPils/Dextrin Malt - How much to use?

I have a quick question: When using CaraPils/Dextrin malt in a 10-gallon batch of all-grain ale, what percentage of the grain bill should be allotted? Side notes: - I am using this malt strictly for increased foam, head retention, and enhanced mouthfeel. - I am under the impression that...

    The Mash/Sparge Conundrum

I have been brewing all-grain for a couple years now. After a multitude of batches - spent learning and experimenting - I have reached the point where I am ready to gain understanding and insight into every aspect of the beer-making process. Simply, I have become a proud lover of everything beer...
