My first bottle bomb using the Easy Stove-Top Pasteurizing method

I was just wondering if anyone has ever been killed by a bottle bomb of cider? I do have some recipes that do seem to be over carbed. However, I have never lost a bottle. I have been looking at pasteurizing some instead of using cold crashing to halt the yeast. My friends would laugh their...

    Brewing with my son

Howdy, I remember making root beer with my Dad when I was a kid. We used red star champagne yeast and it did have alcohol in it, but not much. In those days giving a kid a 3.2% beer while working in the yard was no big deal. We would bottle it in pepsi bottles then store it in a root cellar...

    Ready to Bottle

Howdy, Thanks for all the informative post in the Forum! I plan to bottle my first kombucha in the next week. I want to use a 750mm flip top bottle. My question is how much sugar do I need to prime the bottle? I was thinking a tablespoon of simple syrup per 750mm bottle then top off...

    Carbonating Apfelwein

Here's two more cents: I love Apfelwein, But it takes time. I have never carbed it. However, If you look at the recipes for "Drop Them Panties Again Cider", "Johnny Jump Up Cider" and last but never least "Graff" by BrandonO, you can learn from those posts how they handle carbing, then apply...

    End-of-the-World Mead??

Thanks for the post! It got me thinking about a 2012 brew. I think I'll do a cyser based on the "Drop Them Panties Again" or Johnny Jumpup" recipies. Add some extra honey and dried smoked chiles or ginger then carb it up and age till then.....hell ya. I may even call all the boy's over on the...

    Naming Your Homebrew

I think it's kinda fun to name my brews, usually after the fruits I brew with such as: Raspberry Sip or Blackberry Thumper. I have also been thinking about using some of the local towns, County or landmarks like: Jasper Co. Mead, Stone's Corner Cyser or Pawnee Rock Port. I have named some brews...

Drop Them Panties Again - Sweet Sparkling Cider

I let mine go a little dry, then back sweeted with a cup of honey. It carbed up nice and so far no bottle bombs. It is clearing but does have some haze in it. Next time I'm not going to boil the apple juice. Anyway I like it! May try one with molasses instead of honey Jug

Drop Them Panties Again - Sweet Sparkling Cider

    Welches white grape raspberry

I love making the raspberry. However, I use 2 pounds of sugar per gallon with 2 cans of concentrate and standard yeast nutrient 1 tsp per gallon. I use Red Star Premier Cuv'ee for yeast. I let it work till clears then rack off to clean carboy and let it bulk age till I'm ready to bottle (usally...
