Does anyone else here pay to park at work?

Does payment include security? Company here has large lot across from building with security at the entrance and roving patrols. Yesterday, guy who works for me calls and said his two drivers side tires were stolen. Last week a car was stolen. Broad daylight. Go figure, you get what you pay...

    The "never again" syndrome

My most memorable never again would be ouzo (sp?) Drank that and beer exclusively at my bachelor party. Ended up getting sick and passed out. Was up at 6 the next morning cooking omlets for everyone else. They woke to the smell and got sick themselves. It's been nearly 20 years and haven't...

    It's a sucess!!

Just popped open my first Brewers Best American Cream Ale. This is my first ever attempt and I only have one word. WOW! :ban: It's only been in the bottle for one week and tastes great. Lacking the carbonation, but hopefully it will come. I only have one regret. Only that I didn't put...

    Secondary question

On Saturday I racked to the secondary (glass carboy) after being in the primary for a week. Airlock activity has been zero since day three. Had a taste at transfer time and it tasted fine. I looked in on the brew on Sunday and there appeared to be a few small white patches on the top. Looked...

Explain your handle / De construct your avatar

A couple of years ago, my son wanted me to sign up for fantasy football. It was late, and I was tired. I had to come up with a screen name and I was to tired to think, hence the name. As far as the avatar goes, I haven't figured out how to get one. I really haven't put much effort into...

    When to rack to secondary

Hi there. Newby question. When do you rack to the secondary? Automatically at 1 week? After 3 days of checking the gravity with no movement? On Saturday, I brewed a Brewers Best kit, American Cream Ale. I pitched the yeast at 77 degrees. In 3 hours, I had about 1 bubble a second. Now...

    Pitching Yeast

Well I got it down to 76 degrees and then pitched with two packs of Nottingham's which I re-hydrated. The airlock started activity within 3 hours, about 1 bubble per second. Woke up this morning and the bubbles slowed to about 1 every 10 seconds. I plan on racking to the secondary in one...

So I brewed my first batch today.

I have a question about cooling as well. Sticking the brew pot into an ice bath with the lid on, whats the best way to tell what the temp is? Take the lid off and stick in a thermometer every once in awhile? Wouldn't this risk comtamination?

    Pitching Yeast

    Pitching Yeast

Knowing that thew ort should be cooled quickly. If it takes 30 - 60 mins to get it lowered, would that hurt?

    Pitching Yeast

Is 85 degrees to warm to pitch yeast? I have a brewers best American Cream Ale kit and am using Nottingham yeast. I don't have the option of using cold water/ice bath.

    Topping off

Hello. I am starting my first brew tomorrow, a Brewers Best American Cream Ale. I have a few questions about topping off. When I put the wort into the primary, a 6.5 gal. bucket, should I top off to 5 or 5.5 gallons? I was thinking (and the directions say 5), but I have heard people topping...

    Cleaning and Sanitizing

Hello. I have been told that I can keep a solution of both the cleaner (One Step) and sanitizer (Iodophor) in a bucket for a couple of weeks without losing any effectiveness. First question. Is this true? Second question. If so, should it be a food grade bucket? I have a couple of unused 5...
