    gravity too low?

The other potential problem is the secondary isn't the size I thought it was. I thought it was 6.5 gallons but after transferring the 6 gallon batch in (lost a little but not much) there's still quite a bit of room. So now I'm thinking it's 7.5, but I'm not sure. Yeah, dumb move.

    gravity too low?

I've brewed lots of beer, this is my first wine. I'm making an Island Mist kit for my first try. I made the wine on 8/2 and misread the directions (lost track of time) and didn't transfer it to secondary until tonight. The gravity is .992. The instructions say to leave it in secondary until its...

TSA took away my Star San

Well, I've got to ask... why do you fly with star san? Like are you a travelling brewer? Going city to city, converting the masses to homebrew? Or do you live somewhere so remote you can't get it? Just curious

Making sure my place is suitable for homebrewing

Stovetop brewing is fine, lots of brewers (me included) do it. if it's an electric range then I'd recommend sticking to all extract or partial mashing. And that's because of the volume of liquid you have to get to a boil if you were to do all-grain. As for calibrating the temperature, a decent...

Trub or not to trub- that is the question

There's lots of opinions on this, and many different ways to brew. I'm using a syphon hose (because I can't lift the 5+ gallons of wort) and running the wort through a strainer that sits right on my plastic fermenter. It works pretty well for me. I attached a pic of what I use. I used to put...

    2nd brew-advice needed

As in before you drink it? I'd say 3 weeks, that's my rule of thumb, but you could always try it sooner, if it tastes carbonated enough for you, drink it.

    My brew plan for tomorrow...

You'd just need to divide hops, etc evenly between the 2 pots. As for the grains, if you shake the bag good I'd think it would be mixed enough. Unless you see a real clear diviison of grains.. I know when I get my grains, it's well mixed in the bag so I wouldn't think it would matter.

Nano Brewery - lehigh valley, PA

A member of my local brew club (lehigh valley homebrewers) is attempting to startup a nano brewery in Allentown PA. Anyone interested in just checking it out: http://www.hijinxbrewing.com/home.html Curt also has a jumpstart campaign going (where you can donate, in exchange for some stuff)...

How long to condition a Belgian Trippel

It gets progressively better, I made one that was ok at a month, but after 6 months was much better. I had one tucked away that I tried after about a year and loved it.

    Possible infection. Savable?

I don't have any experience kegging (yet). I try and have 3 weeks in bottle for a decent carbonation.

    Beer Labelizer - Label Generator

Just to make sure I didn't miss anything - there's 2 labels where I can upload my own image, correct? This is awesome!

    Dilemma

Thanks; that's what I was leaning towards. I was going to do a lager also, but the temp difference and time needed messed with my plan so I scrapped it. I'm brewing for our semi-annual beer tasting party in September, so I've got a schedule to keep :tank:

    Possible infection. Savable?

Have you tasted the pale ale yet? I'd pull a sample and taste it before making a decision. As for the other one mellowing, I can only speak from experience from one of my batchs of beer that was 'off'. It did change a little, but never tasted 'good' to me.

    Dilemma

Ok, so I have a slight hitch in my brewing plan. I have a fridge w/controller on it, that will hold 2 fermenters, and I just brewed another batch. The fridge has 2 batches currently in it (set at 64). The 2 that are in the fridge are: a red ale (wyeast 1084 - 62-72 range) in secondary and a...

    What is it called??

that's probably yet another reason it didn't register on my brain. Or the 3 pints I drank before going on the tour....

    What is it called??

Ah. That was it. I think a combination of a term I wasn't familiar with, and running the words together or something :). Thanks!

    What is it called??

I went on a tour of a brewpub, and during the tour something caught my attention that I cant find information on. They had a name for the vessel they heat the water up in (no, I can't remember it!) that wasn't familiar to me. I'm not sure if it's just something they call it, or what, but I...
