That blows my mind. Good news though!

Brew Sculpture Plan (diagram) - Advice welcome and appreciated!

tally- I'm going to use my 10 gallon cooler. I want to mash in the keggle so that I can direct fire, heating the mash through steps and intermittently to keep temps stable during steps. I like the idea of recirculating for most of the mash to create clear wort. 3BB001- One pump was a crucial...

Brew Sculpture Plan (diagram) - Advice welcome and appreciated!

Here is a diagram of my current plan: It is a pretty simple 2 tier setup. Boil on the left, mash tun keggle on the right. I plan to use a cooler on top to hold sparge water. The frame is 2" 14 gauge A500 mild steel square tube. My brewday will work as follows: Heat water in the mash...

Hop Bursting + Late malt extract = 30 min beer? Please provide advice

I was not clear in the previous post. What I meant to say here was that there was very little sugar in the first 10min of the boil, only what came off of the steeping grains. This reduced sugar level should have slightly increased my hop utilization during those 10min.

Hop Bursting + Late malt extract = 30 min beer? Please provide advice

Thanks for your feedback and for doing the math! Im not sure that I can ever add enough hops :) The plan for the keg was to serve it to strangers, so I did not want a very bitter beer. I figured I'd get a little bump in utilization boiling in water with only steeping grains for 10 minutes...

Hop Bursting + Late malt extract = 30 min beer? Please provide advice

I don't have the exact recipie. Its sounds like a joke, but my dog literally ate my recipie. She loves paper. She ate my W2 last year. It was a pound of caramel 40/60 mix steeped until 170deg. Then 1oz of a hop blend (equal parts Bravo, Chinook, Columbus, and Cascade) once a boil was...

Hop Bursting + Late malt extract = 30 min beer? Please provide advice

So I have early results. I crashed for 4 days after a 3 week primary with US-05. It is in the keg now, carbing at 10psi. When I tried it out of the fermenter and I was pretty disappointed. The beer was plenty bitter, but it lacked the aroma and flavor I'd hoped this process would retain. I...

    Perpetual Sour Project

Awesome response ReverseApacheMaster! I really appreciate the info. I'm all about making a few lacto based sours to tide me over, stblindtiger. I love the straight sour I've tasted in other sour mashes and I'm excited to try it for myself.

    Feeding maltodextrin to sour bugs

Right, that is my mistake. Otherwise all the maltose from my malt would be useless. :o That should have read: If yeast can't eat maltodextrin why would it matter? I think this would save a step and keep the bugs ever-busy until the all maltodextrin was gone. Plus anytime you're going in, you...

Thanks for the feedback. Like all of my good ideas, someone has already come up with it.

    Feeding maltodextrin to sour bugs

If yeast can't eat maltose why would it matter? I think this would save a step and keep the bugs ever-busy until the all maltose was gone. Plus anytime you're going in, you risk introducing oxygen for acetobater, right?

    Perpetual Sour Project

As a new homeowner, I'm excited about the prospect of long term aging of sour beer. I have no experience in producing sour beer, so I though I'd consult the HBT brain-trust for advice before proceeding with my plan. I am not good at waiting for anything. I want to be able to produce good sour...

    pumps no power switch?

I think "The Clapper" would be the perfect solution.

    Silicone Tubing & street elbows

So the street elbow is a full 1/2" causing no restriction (beyond what the 90deg bend causes)? How tough is that connection? I worry about it slipping. Would it hold a 5lb weight? I don't hang weight from my hoses, but it would be nice to have that security. I noticed that Bobby M does not...

    Different take on brew sculpture...

Have you brewed with this yet? I am looking to build a brew sculpture of some sort, and this has a number of favorable attributes. Nice work!

Hop Bursting + Late malt extract = 30 min beer? Please provide advice

I completed this brew last night. It took just over an hour and fifteen minutes from the time I lit the burner until the time I had everything cleaned up. The actual boil was only 15 minutes, with a short flame out to mix in the malt extract at the 5 minute mark. Two ounces of Chinook, Cascade...

Hop Bursting + Late malt extract = 30 min beer? Please provide advice

Thanks for the feedback. I am rich with lots of high AA hops right now, and I want to use them before they get old anyhow. I think I'll give it a try tonight. I'll let you know in a month!

Hop Bursting + Late malt extract = 30 min beer? Please provide advice

It is hot this week in Columbus, Ohio. I need to brew a beer for and event a little over a month away, so I was thinking APA. I need to brew today, but it is WAY too hot for me to want to spend a hours outside mashing, sparging, and boiling. I was thinking about doing an extract beer. I have...

    Walk In cooler project

What did this project run you in total. I am considering a similar project in the garage, but SWMBO thinks saving for "our future" makes more sense. Who wants to live in a future with one of these? Am I right? Anyway, I want to try and do this well for around $750. If I wait until the fall I'll...

March Madness of Beer - Pale Ale House Brew Tourney!

I've been brewing and lurking in the forum little while now. One common thing I see is people discussing their 'House Brew'. I feel its time that I developed a house brew of my own. Rather than stumble upon a the first recipe I really like (which I fear will be the only recipe I make of that...
