    Dead Guy Ale

DGA is advertised as a German Maibock. Aren't Maibocks considered to be lagers, not ales? Rogue uses an ale yeast..... Just curious

When to make a yeast starter?

I plan on brewing Sunday, a Rogue Dead Guy Ale Clone. I'm using Wyeast Northwest Activator yeast. When should I make the starter? How will I know it's ready to pitch? Thanks

    Is it necessary????

Has anyone had experience pitching right out of the pouch (wyeast), without making a starter? I'm curious how it turns out.

    Beer Ruined

Thanks for all the feedback...This experience was a total bummer, almost to the point of being scared to brew another batch. But then I realized something...I like beer too much to quit!!!!!

    Beer Ruined

So disappointed. I had brewed an Extra Pale Ale that I had purchased from Northern Brewer. This was the second recipe kit I had made and it turned out to be a disaster. I followed the recipe precisely and followed all suggestions from John Palmer, just like I did the first time when it turned...

    Quick Fermentation?

I haven't taken a gravity reading. I used vodka in the airlock and noticed that the level dropped significantly. I added a bit more vodka into the airlock (I hope this is ok?) and low and behold, it started bubbling again. I guess the yeast was still doing its job. will opening the cover to...

    Quick Fermentation?

Is it possible for primary fermentation to be done in about 1 1/2 days? I put my beer in the primary on saturday afternoon at about 5pm. By Tuesday morning, there was absolutely no activity in the airlock. The bucket was kept in a dark closet and the temp was anywhere from 64 to 68 degrees.

Safale US -05 vs. Pacman Activator Yeast

I have a recipe that recommends Rogue Pacman Activator Yeast from Wyeast. Would it make much of a difference if I use US-05 dry yeast? I have it on hand.

    Pitching to a secondary fermenter

If my primary fermentation is being done in a bucket without a spigot, what is the best way to transfer the beer into the secondary or bottling bucket without exposing it to too much air. I have an auto-siphon, but are there any other recommendations. Any feedback is greatly appreciated

    Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar

Thanks for the quick responses. I think I'll do the longer primary fermentation and add the flavoring afterward

    Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar

I'm brand new to home brewing and received this extract kit as a gift. As I've read from others, the instructions are very vague. The instructions imply adding the flavor extract (2 oz of hazelnut flavoring) at the end of my boil, just before cooling. A video I watched said to add a flavor...
