Brewing up a Gluten Free Beer this weekend- anyone else?

I've given up on brewing gluten free beers, the ones I've made have tasted really awful, and I just don't have the time or energy to debug what's gone wrong. So, I now brew up some Cider every year, as per Graham's recipe: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f81/grahams-english-cider-107152/ Which...

    Grain roasting times

Well, I've just had a bit of fun with some buckwheat :) started at 180C, going up 10c every half hour, and 1.5 hours and 200C, I know have a solid chunk of charcoal :( think my oven temps might be out a little...

    Whats your typical FG?

My two sorghum brews so far have finished up at 1012. Took 10 days at ~23C (73F) or so for s-04 to get there, and 3 weeks with s-23 at 12C (54F).

How clear are your sorghum beers?

Well, my 2 GF brews so far have been very cloudy out of the fermenter. The yeasts seems to get into a viscous slurry at the bottom which stirs up very easily. My second brew I racked to a secondary and it seems to be much less cloudy in the bottle than my first where I went straight from...

Brewing up a Gluten Free Beer this weekend- anyone else?

Bottled the beer I did above today, it tastes quite sweet, but it's been at 1012 for 3 days, so I think it's pretty much done. Don't know if I can wait for another 3 weeks to taste it, will have to see how my batch of Lager lasts. The lager is REALLY REALLY bitter, but quite refreshing and...

    Gluten Free Aussie Lager

Allrighty, cracked one open tonight, nicely carbed, a little bit of a head but it dissapated very rapidly, and left no lacing. It tastes to me like a beer. A VERY bitter beer, but quite refreshing, there is a little of a sour aftertaste, but that's mostly masked by the super bitterness of the...

Brewing up a Gluten Free Beer this weekend- anyone else?

Righto, I'll try that roasting schedule for my next ale. What would be some good hops for a dark ale? (I will search around as well, don't worry!)

Brewing up a Gluten Free Beer this weekend- anyone else?

Well, it appears I roasted my buckwheat too dark for a golden ale, so I'm going for a darker ale, kind of like a tooheys old. The LHBS expert said to use a tiny bit of my Aussie Super Pride (15%AA) hops for bittering, and then some goldings for flavour and aroma. I'll try and take photos of my...

Brewing up a Gluten Free Beer this weekend- anyone else?

Pretty sure I will be! Gotta get to the LHBS and buy another fermenter, a new o-ring for my old fermenter, some sorghum syrup, hops and yeast. I'm looking at making a golden Ale, what sort of hops should I get? I've roasted some buckwheat to a nice golden brown colour, and lightly crushed it...

Aussie Gluten Free Brewer n00b incoming!

Hi folks, I've just bottled my first ever brew, a gluten free Lager, which I documented in the recipedb. Like a lot of coeliacs, I like beer, and I'm sick of paying exhorbitant prices for the available GF beers. So I decided to have a crack at home brewing. I've read a lot of posts here on...
