    Making hole for element question

There should be a loaner program for the punch. I just sucked it up and bought one because I like using the right tool for a job. But it would have been nice to just borrow one for the couple holes.

New RIMS Brewery Up and Running

Thank you. Next step is to make the tun and kettle bottom drain to assist with cleaning. Trick is going to be a good hop filtering false bottom on the kettle.

Also make sure you take off the stock gasket that comes with the element.

Can it all work on 50A?

Brewtroller setup with a BX1 will cost the same amount as PIDs. Just saying.

Can it all work on 50A?

Then go with a brewtroller. It can be run directly from the panel with a LCD and rotory controller and/or browser or dedicated iPad/iPhone app.

Can it all work on 50A?

As long as you don't plan on running all three at the same time you should be fine. For the price of three PIDs I would just get a Brewtroller or BCS to start with and be done with it.

Where is the best place to put the temperature sensor for a RIMS setup?

Why don't you propane heat the strike water and then put a removable insulation sleeve on it during the mash?

New RIMS Brewery Up and Running

It is. I had to tweek the element so it (probably) doesn't touch the sides. No issues with it on the first brew. Now if buying again the 2" would be a much better fit.

New RIMS Brewery Up and Running

I'm using a 220v 5500w folded element on 110v. Will have to pull it out to tell you the exact model#.

New RIMS Brewery Up and Running

Just did my first brew today with my finally (mostly) complete RIMS set up. All I can say is electric is the way to go. Mash kept within .4 deg during the mash, close enough for me. Still need to clean things up a bit and the minds always working on what could make it better.

    Faulty 30A Relay

I was posting for the purpose of warning others that this particular brand of relay might be more prone to faults than the other one (brown/black cover) that I see everyone using. I also have two other relays (brown/black cover) that I have had no issues with and have a couple hours of use. This...

    Faulty 30A Relay

Relay is just switched so it's constantly on when in use. A SSR is used with the PID in Brewtroller.

    My less than exciting panel.

    Faulty 30A Relay

Testing out my finally completed brew system today and I was on the last test of boiling water. About 10 minutes into it everything on the panel flashed off then back on and I smelled smoke. Opened it and the 30A relay for the boil was smoking and when powered up it would no longer switch on and...

Quick disconnect for custom temperature probes

I plan trying 1/8" stereo plugs. Numerous options and it can't be any easier to connect and disconnect. Picked up a bunch of cables from Monoprice to test out.
