Tennessee Here's the last of my equipment

Bariatric surgery forced me out of brewing and I appreciate all of you who have been buying pieces from my quality collection of brewing equipment. The surgery was successful...I'm no longer diabetic and have lost 90 pounds so far. I'll never be able to drink beer again or anything...

Tennessee Nashville Area - Everything For All Grain Brewing

Recent bariatric surgery prevents me from ever drinking anything carbonated again, so my homebrew setup needs to go to someone that will use it. Here's a short inventory list and a pic. More pictures available on request. I will take offers on the whole lot or will part it out. You'll be...

WTB - hop rocket / RIMS rocket

I do...I recently had bariatric surgery(gastric bypass) and won't ever be able to drink any carbonated beverages. I've been brewing for 25 years and have an extensive collection of equipment that I need to inventory and put up for sale. I have a gently used hop rocket, but I'm not sure what a...

    SRM Question

dang...this time I didn't check my ph....I figured I was in the zone with my RO and spring water without any additional acid or mineral additions.

    SRM Question

I used 2 pounds of flaked corn...lots of DMS. Also my sampling was from my hydrometer test flask reading....not my carboy. So, if the Maillard reaction the answer to my question I suppose there will be significant flavor changes that weren't anticipated. Probably better to use flaked rice...

    SRM Question

Today I brewed a 10 gallon batch of Cream Ale for a BMC type crowd BBQ. I did a 90 minute boil to remove the DMS. I use Beersmith and the total efficiency was set for 72%....but I hit 80%(not a bad thing, just need to note that for next time) The software predicted 4.3 SRM....but after...

    washed yeast for a starter

I just read the "why not to pitch on a fresh yeast cake" and got my answers. I'll move forward with making a couple of starters for tomorrow's brew session.

    washed yeast for a starter

I'm planning on making a 10 gal. batch of RIS tomorrow. I've washed the yeast, WLP004, from my previous 10 gal batch of dry stout and have put the results into 3 one half gallon jars. In the past I would typically rack the new batch onto the fresh yeast cakes in my fermenters, but I'm changing...

    1st IPA recipe

do some research on how to perform a "hopstand".....IPA's are all about showcasing your hops. Also I've always used lots of hops when dry-hopping...but lately I've been reading about "less is more" that the more hops you use for dry hopping give you less of a return for aroma. I'll be trying...

Dialing in a new homebrew system

I'd suggest calibrating all of your measuring tools. Make sure your scale that you use to measure your grain is correct. Make sure your hydrometers, thermometers, and refractors are reading correctly and if not, factor in the necessary differences in your measurements.

10G batch people. Describe your setup.

I use a direct fired RIMS single tier/3 burner system with two pumps. MLT is a 15 gal. MegaPot 1.2 two w/3piece valves and a recirc port also using 3 Blichmann adjustable thermometers, HLT is a 15 gal MegaPot 1.2, BK is a 20 gal MegaPot 1.2 with a whirlpool port. Therminator plate chiller and...

    White Labs Response to Starters

I was just on the White Labs website last week...and although I find this topic interesting, White labs has instructions on their website for making yeast starters for ales and for lagers.

    10 gallon brew setup?

I decided to upgrade to 10 gallon batches recently. My first 5 gallon batch rig in the early 90's used a 5 gallon bucket with a gazillion holes drilled in the bottom fitted inside another 5 gallon bucket(it was called a Zapap mash tun that Charlie described in his 1st book) with a spigot and...

    Huge RIS Questions

I've used 099 on a big% RIS. I had originally pitched an OG of 1.140 to a fresh yeast cake of 001. It worked itself down to 1.045 within a week with oxygen aeration and yeast nutrients. I added the 099 and within less than 24 hours it had come down to 1.020. I immediately racked to...

    Huge RIS Questions

FYI - when doing big beers like this, you're not going to get 70% + efficiency. On my RIS brews, I'm lucky to get 60%...most of the time I'm looking at 55%...but that's with 100% all grain. You can always increase your OG with DME before you finish your boil. My last RIS used 37 lbs of...
