    DYI Kits

For 2x 4500w elements running at the same time wouldn't you need to go with 50A instead of 30A? I also think the common variants of 2x 4500w I see are: 1 - 2x independently fired elements for back-to-back batches. 2 - 2x fired-together elements for larger batches / quicker ramps. I'm not sure...

Why so many switches, led, and relays??

Nah, but thanks for the offer. Never know what I might end up using it for in the future. I like horsing around with my equipment nearly as much as brewing... plus it makes a pretty snazzy thermometer! :mug:

Why so many switches, led, and relays??

I think there's a lot of "extra" or "nice to have" stuff in a lot of the panels I've seen on here. Heck even mine has some :p. I actually ordered a 2nd temp probe & PID for the MLT thinking I was going to use it to control recirculation during the mash (so I could maintain different temps in...

DIY Guide for Auber based Brewery Control Box?

I've never assembled that particular control panel. I don't know if it will help but here's what I've found useful while building my own control panels (I have a similar one for a RIMs setup & I'm piecing together a larger system). I'm also not an electrician or anything. For a lot of stuff it...

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

I did basically the same thing (although only 2 cups dry rice) with the same lack of results. It looks like there's white stuff growing all over it but I don't see any liquid. I thought maybe it was too cold so I moved it close to a heater ~24 hrs ago. Still no liquid. I'm guessing that it's...

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

Great thread. I have always enjoyed sake but it always sounded like a huge pain to make. This sounds so easy and seems to be getting good results so I'm totally giving this a try today!

    Basement Brew Area Build

I would be really interested to see what you end up with if you use strut to make your stand, where you source parts, and so on. I was thinking about doing the same for what I'll put together. It'll take me a while to get there though.

    Basement Brew Area Build

I'm in the South Wedge. I'm not a member of any local brew clubs but also thinking about it. Seems like there might be at least a couple in our area. Any idea if any of them are active? I know some brewers through work but no one who's a member of any of the clubs. It might be fun! I recently...

    My Weldless Build Using Strut

I assume it's: http://www.strutchannelfittings.com/ I did a google search for gp llc and that was the first result. The page says "Welcome to G-P LLC...". I suppose someone will correct me if I'm mistaken here :).

    Basement Brew Area Build

Speaking of the original programming... congrats on the go-ahead for the basement build! I look forward to seeing the results. As a fellow Rochester brewer I can attest to how much it sucks to brew outside in our winters :) I brewed one batch inside before I was banished to the unheated...

Quick question about contactor rating meanings

So the control panel will have some of each (37.5A resistive and 2 pumps worth of inductive). I suppose that means that I should really aim for 50A inductive rating?

Quick question about contactor rating meanings

As a bit of background - I'm in the middle of planning out a parts list for a 50A control panel (upgrading from a smaller 120VAC toolbox build I have currently). I'm trying to figure out which parts to use for the contactors. I'm aiming to use 2x 50A contactors: 1 for main power on/off and...

New NY brewing law being pushed

Ah I saw your post and wasn't sure how I came across as a spammer. It all makes sense now :-P. I was idly trying to figure out what it would take to get one of these licenses and figured I'd post that it looks like it passed. I'd be curious to know what they found out if anyone has actually...

New NY brewing law being pushed

So it looks like this will go into effect sometime in July 2013? Sounds like Cuomo signed it and reading the text of the law it says it goes into effect 180 days after it's signed. I'm not a lawyer or anything but that's how I read it.

    Raspberry Pi Brewhouse controller?

You don't need a mini computer. You could use an old PC running Linux & owfs with one-wire components. Check out this thread: Monitoring/controlling with Linux on the cheap Sometimes it's just fun to have another computer though :p. Also if you're going to leave the thing running 24-7 you...

Syracuse, ny - round 7 group grain buy

You could sign me up for that last straggler pound of columbus if it's still left by five. :-P

I'm at work so I can't update the sheet but I'll take the last styrian if there is a pound left.
