    First brew help

I wouldn't think that would cause an issue. That's not much time in the primary. Even when I have a need to use a secondary, which is not often, I like to leave it in the primary for at minimum 2 - 3 weeks.

Just brewed my first batch today!

Time is your friend in brewing. I normally don't move mine until 3 weeks or so, if I am going to use a secondary. It can be tough to wait, but patience is a good thing for beer.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Shopping at the homebrew store Saturday morning, then brewing Saturday and Sunday. Brewing an IPA on one of those day, and still debating on what to do for the other day. Possibly a lambic. Never tried to brew a lambic before, and it's always good to try something new.

    understanding a hop schedule

If I understand this, you have it backwards. In this case, assuming a 60 minute boil, you would put the bittering hops in at the start of the boil, add the flavor hops after 40 minutes of the boil (20 minutes left in the boil), add the aroma hops after 58 minutes of the boil (2 minutes left in...

    understanding a hop schedule

60 min means to boil for 60 minutes. The 20 minute EKG would be for flavor, the 2 minute would be for aroma. You are correct on the 0 minute addition. That does mean to add at flameout. (guess I'm slow. no replies... I post and am the 2nd to reply... must be old age catching up to me :P)

Perfect brew day... and then my kid "helped" out

lol Love it. I boiled an extra 30 minutes and ended up right at 1.060 for my og. I'm curious what the extra boil time is going to end up doing to the flavor. I guess I'll find out in a couple of months.

Perfect brew day... and then my kid "helped" out

Nice day to brew. Sunny, no clouds. Nothing going on except brewing a Chimay Red clone and drinking a Chimay Red. All went well for the most part. Finished with the boil and was testing my counterflow chiller since I had an issue with it last time I used it. Hose came loose again this time...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewing a Chimay Red clone. Mashing, typing, and drinking a real Chimay all at the same time. And it's not starting to sleet in the middle of my brewday this time. :mug:

    Belgian Beer Festival..Wow

That's the truth. Makes me thirsty just looking. Lot of stuff on there that I haven't tried, but definitely want to. I do like me some Pauwel Kwak. I'm sure there are some other beers in there that I would like more, but it is definitely a good one. Love the Kwak glass/holder as well.

    Howdy from Indiana

Welcome aboard! That kit should be fine. It might even be a little overkill for starting off, but you may want to hear some opinions from a few others that have more experience than me. Just make sure you have a big enough kettle for your boil and with that kit you should be good to go.

    Belgian Tripel???

That first batch is tough to be patient with, so I would start with one that doesn't need to age as long. Of course, it's not my beer so brew what you want to brew, just realize you may need to be more patient with it than you would with a lower gravity beer.

    Infected batch

My brother brewed a beer a few years ago that smelled exactly like a fart. Not sure if it was infected or not, but that's the first beer I couldn't even make myself try.
